honestly you're right that most of the coverage lumped them in with the general protests but there were definitely standalone russian-language actions. the big one i remember was at the russian embassy on Unter den Linden in early march 2022, maybe around the 6th or 7th? it was mostly russian speakers, lots of white-blue-white flags instead of the traditional tricolor, and the vibe was very much "not in our name" rather than generic peace stuff.

another smaller one happened at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe a few weeks later, organized by the Free Russia Forum people. they had speakers who were exiles, some from the art scene and some former journalists. it wasn't huge maybe 200-300 people but it was definitely russian-led and the signs were in russian only.

if you want to dig deeper try searching "Freies Russland Berlin" or "Russen gegen Krieg Berlin" on facebook or telegram. a lot of the organizing happened in closed groups that google won't index well. the mainstream german press barely covered them because they were small and language-specific.

Yeah, there definitely were some specifically Russian-led protests here. I remember a few being held at the Brandenburg Gate and near the Russian embassy, with people carrying signs in Russian and a strong focus on anti-Putin sentiment, not just general anti-war stuff.

tbh the big rallies were easy to find but the russian-only ones were way smaller and harder to spot in the news. try looking up "russischer opposition Berlin" on instagram or check the free russia foundation's event pages, they had a few gatherings at the soviet war

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
