What can I do with a couple of packs of meds I don't need?

Basically, I have a couple of packs of the same meds. One is opened, the other one is sealed. Unfortunately, I can't take these meds myself because of the side effects I'm experiencing. I have no idea why my doctor prescribed two packs. So, is there anything I can do with it? I believe selling it would be illegal? Anything else I can do? The name of the meds is Quviviq, if you are interested.

Selling it is definitely illegal, you're right about that. Your best bet is to take both packs to any Apotheke, even the one where you got the prescription filled. They have a system for disposing of old or unwanted medications, and the sealed pack might be usable for someone else through their social programs, though the opened one will just be destroyed. If you go to the one on Frankfurter Allee near the Ring-Center, I know they take them without any questions.

Since Quviviq is a controlled substance under German narcotics law (BtM), most pharmacies will actually refuse to take it back for disposal. You'd need to check with your local Ordnungsamt or ask at a pharmacy that handles BtM disposal specifically. The opened pack is definitely a lost cause for donation, but the sealed one could potentially go back to the prescribing doctor's office for proper return, though they might not want the hassle either.

tbh most people don't know this but you can actually check if the sealed pack is within the Rücknahmepflicht timeframe -- some insurances let you return unopened meds within 14 days of purchase if you got them at a regular pharmacy, not a mail-order one. quviviq being a btM makes it trickier though, so even if it's sealed most places won't touch it for resale or donation. your safest bet is the Apothekennotdienst hotline at 0800 00 22 833, they'll tell you which pharmacy near you actually handles narcotics disposal. the opened one is definitely just going to be incinerated no matter where you bring it
