My friend raves about the sunset views, apparently, they're legendary. But she's also mentioned a recurring "mystery", a faint, almost imperceptible melody that seems to drift from the lake at dusk, only audible from certain spots on the hotel grounds. She swears it's not just the wind. Anyone else experienced this? Is it some local legend, a quirky bit of hotel ambiance, or am I walking into a ghost story?!

That melody thing pops up in guest reviews every couple of years. I grew up near here and my grandmother used to say the old villa gardens had these little iron wind chimes shaped like tuning forks, a few might still be rusted into the trees along the waterline. If you walk the path toward the Strandbad Wannsee just before sunset, you can sometimes catch the sound drifting from the reeds near the old boathouse foundations. The hotel staff will usually shrug it off but the older ones know exactly what you mean.

I've heard this before from a few people who stay out there. The Bonverde sits right where the lake curves near the Kleiner Wannsee S-Bahn station, and on calm evenings, the acoustics can carry sound in strange ways from the sailing club across the water. They sometimes play ambient music during evening events, and it bounces off the trees and water in a way that makes it sound like it's coming from nowhere. The sunset from the terrace is worth any mild confusion, just grab a glass of something cold from the bar and watch the light hit the Pfaueninsel.

the hotel's old wine cellar used to run right under the terrace, there's a ventilation grate near the western steps that picks up air currents from the water. i've heard the sound too, it's more like a cello than a flute tbh, and it only happens when the wind is coming from the pfaueninsel direction. grab a seat by that grate around 7:30 and see if it lines up with the ferries docking at the wannsee pier. sunset's killer either way, just don't let the staff catch you standing on the grate, they get weird about it

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
