I swear, the self-checkout lines were moving slower than a snail on tranquilizers. I had a full cart, enough groceries to feed a small army, and I'm thinking, "This is going to take forever." I even saw a guy try to pay with Monopoly money. Seriously. Anyway, my question is: what's the secret to conquering the Lidl checkout chaos? Is there some hidden skill, some unspoken code? Or is it just pure luck? I need to know for my sanity.

that lidl near brandenburger tor is a special kind of hell tbh, tourist traffic mixed with locals grabbing their weissbier. my trick is to scope out the cashiers before you even pick a line. there's this one older dude with a mustache who works weekday mornings, he's a machine, barely looks up and just keeps scanning. also, if you're at the self-checkout, don't bother weighing your produce at the machine, do it at the separate scale before you queue, it saves that awkward fumbling while people stare at you

Embrace the chaos. Seriously. It's a Lidl thing. You'll see everything, people arguing over the last pack of vegan sausages, toddlers having meltdowns in the middle of the aisle, and yes, even Monopoly money attempts. My strategy? Go at off-peak hours. Like, REALLY off-peak. Think Tuesday at 7 AM. Or learn German, maybe you can speed up your checkout by being able to smoothly handle any questions. Otherwise, just accept your fate and prepare for a good story to tell later.

Just go to the register furthest from the entrance. Tourists grab the first open line they see, so the one in the back usually clears out faster. Also, have your Pfand bottles ready to hand over before you even put your stuff on the belt, nothing slows things down like someone digging through their bags for empties.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
