Hotel Am Steinplatz Mystery?
That music box is likely from the old owner's private collection, not standard hotel decor. The Steinplatz was a private residence before it was a hotel, and some of the family's belongings were left in certain suites when they sold it in the 90s. If you're curious, ask for the manager named Frau Weber, she's the one who catalogued all the original pieces and can tell you which room you were in.
Creepy! Hotels are full of weird stuff people leave behind. I once found a half-eaten bag of those weird gummy bears at a hotel in @Prague... never touched them. Maybe it's just one of those things where the previous guest forgot it, and it wasn't noticed in cleaning. But yeah, the antique music box thing sounds a bit more... sinister. I wouldn't have taken it either. You should of reported it to the hotel, though, maybe they've had similar experiences. Or maybe it's just a super-expensive, super-creepy room service item.

huh that music box thing is a bit wild. the steinplatz has a lot of original art deco pieces from the 20s but i've never heard of music boxes being part of the decor. maybe it was a prop from one of the film crews that sometimes stay there - they shoot a lot of period stuff around ku'damm. if you're ever back, grab a negroni at the bar and ask for michael, he's been working there like 15 years and probably knows exactly what room you were in

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?
Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.
if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point
honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
