Is Josty's Still Josty?

It was... different. The photos online made it look like a cozy, old-school Berlin cafe, but it felt kinda sterile, like they'd tried too hard to be "hip." The coffee was good, though, seriously. But the atmosphere? Felt weirdly impersonal. I ordered a traditional Berliner Pfannkuchen and it was alright, a bit too sweet maybe. Should of gotten the apfelstrudel instead. I'm wondering, did they change ownership or something? It just didn't have the charm I expected based on the reviews. The prices were reasonable enough, I guess. It felt like a really generic cafe, for a place that claims to have been around for ages.

Yeah, Josty's has definitely changed. It's been going downhill for a while now. Used to be a proper Kiez institution, full of character. Now it's all Instagrammable minimalism and overpriced lattes. They probably did a revamp aiming for a younger crowd and totally missed the mark. A shame, really. The Pfannkuchen being overly sweet is a pretty common complaint these days, too. Maybe they changed bakers or something. I'd stick to somewhere else next time, honestly. There are still plenty of fantastic, unpretentious cafes around the Brandenburg Gate, you just gotta dig a little deeper.

Ugh, that's a bummer. I loved Josty's. The Pfannkuchen were legendary! Overly sweet... that explains it. I remember them being perfectly balanced, fluffy and delicious. It sounds like they completely lost their identity. Thanks for the heads-up, though. I'll explore those cafes near the Brandenburg Gate then. Any recommendations? Maybe something with a similar vibe to old Josty's, if such a thing still exists...

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
