Wohnungsnot in Berlin - wie als dualer Student damit umgehen?

For a duales Studium in Charlottenburg, check if your company or Hochschule has partnerships with any Wohnheime. Some private ones near the TU Berlin reserve rooms specifically for dual students and you can skip the public waiting lists. The Messe area has a few newer ones that opened in the last two years and they're not as well known yet. Also consider a Zwischenmiete starting in July or August, a lot of students sublet their rooms while they're home for the summer and you can use that time to hunt for something permanent in person. Spandau is a solid backup for commuting, the S-Bahn from there to Charlottenburg is about 15 minutes and parking is actually possible.

honestly 2 hours from wolfsburg each way will wreck you, i did something similar for a year and the fuel costs alone were brutal plus the a2 gets boring fast. look into the studentenwerk dorms near charlottenburg, the waiting lists open around march 2025 for the winter semester and they're way cheaper than anything on the private market. also check zwischenmiete listings on wg-gesucht for summer 2025, a lot of students leave berlin for the semester break and you can take over their room for a few months while you figure out something permanent. charlottenburg has decent anbindung to the sbahn so you could even look at spots in spandau or westend where parking is less of a headache

Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
