Was anyone else just on the U6 now?

That was wild, we were leaving Hallesches Tor by way of Alt Mariendorf and the train stopped and started 3x. People went flying in my train car haha

weird thing is the u6 stutter isnt even the train most of the time, its the power rail losing contact on that stretch near Mehringdamm. you can sometimes hear the compressor cut out right before the lurch. i just grab the vertical pole instead of the overhead ones, way better leverage when it kicks. falling into someone twice tho is basically fate at this point, you gotta at least get his name next time

That stutter-stop is the ABS brake release cycling, you can hear it if you sit near the front car, a sort of hiss then a lurch. Happens on the older F84 stock mostly, and Hallesches Tor to Mehringdamm has that curve where the rails get greasy this time of year. If you're heading that way regularly, the 248 from Hallesches Tor up to Zossener Strasse is slower but you stay upright and it's one zone.

Alt Mariendorf is on the U6? I think you mean Alt-Mariendorf, and that's the southern terminus, so you'd have been heading south out of Hallesches Tor, not leaving it toward Mehringdamm. The stutter-stop is real though. I've started taking the M41 down Tempelhofer Damm instead when it's bad, takes longer but at least nobody lands in my lap.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
