cycling clubs/groups for older women?
my mom is 70 and loves cycling, think more casual e-biking on trails and bike paths than road cyc… hi! I've searched for this info in other threads but couldn't find anything. hoping someone can help!
my mom is 70 and loves cycling, think more casual e-biking on trails and bike paths than road cycling.
we're going cycling together in the Scottish Highlands later this month, and she decided to extend her trip. She wants to visit Berlin and go cycling there (we live in different parts of the U.S. and are flying in and out of London and I know to Europeans this seems insane, but we gotta take advantage of international flights lol).
Can anyone recommend social cycling clubs or groups that organize social rides that might be a good fit for her? Groups of older women would be especially good, I think!
more relevant details: - When we ride in the highlands we do ~20-25 miles/day through the woods and hills on mostly gravel paths, and it's pretty hilly. I'm 36 and in good shape and some of the hills were a little challenging for me on a regular gravel bike, but for her on the e-bike they aren't bad. - My top concern for her is just getting around and navigating/finding paths that are not on the road, and I thought having a group she could join would make it easier and more enjoyable for her. - She's most nervous to go to Berlin on her own and navigate everything at her age while not speaking German. I think she may be okay, especially given how many people speak English in Berlin. - She's very social and loves to learn about other people and cultures. Our family hosted an exchange student from Germany 25 years ago and we're still in touch and have visited her in NW Germany many times, so this will not be my mom's first time to Germany, although she's always been with us or our former exchange student in the past.
I already committed to going to see friends in Italy (yes, also insane) so I can't join her, although I'd love to because I've been to Berlin a few times and loved cycling and everything else there.

yeah the guide's got the main stuff down, one thing i'd add is that the späti culture is legit for saving money but specifically the ones in kreuzberg near kottbusser tor have the cheapest beers, like 0.80 eur for a can of sterni. also if you're doing the sunday museum thing, skip the pergamon queue and go to the hamburger bahnhof instead, it's way less crowded and has cool contemporary art plus the building itself is a converted train station so it's a vibe
for food, i'd say the best budget move is not the döner but the falafel at yafa on sonnenallee, 4 eur for a massive plate and it's open till late. and tbh the reichstag booking is a pain but if you miss it, the rooftop at the kollhoff tower near potsdamer platz is like 4 eur and gives you a solid view without the hassle
