I'm looking to see if anyone shares my experience as I feel like this has been the worst pollen season of my life.

I've lived in Berlin for 10 years and been allergic to pollen my entire life (birch & grass, plus a dust mite allergy on top) and I've been going to immunotherapy (injections) for the past three years. I always get a handful of really bad days each spring/summer season (by a really bad day I mean a day I need to spend hiding indoors with the windows closed and still be completely congested and have itchy red eyes) but this year the number of those days has been three times higher than usual. Not only does that mean that the immunotherapy unfortunately did not work for me, but I'm starting to fear it may have actually made my allergies worse.

I've noticed that a couple of my friends who generally don't really suffer from allergies have been complaining about their sniffles and itchy eyes this summer as well, so could it be that this pollen season has actually been much more aggressive than usual? Has anyone else felt the same?

yeah you're not imagining it. the uba pollen counts have been wild this year, birch started like 2 weeks early and then grass just kept going. i read somewhere that the warm february messed up the whole timeline. also, immunotherapy can take 3 to 5 years to fully kick in, so don't write it off yet, i know someone who only felt better in year 4. but honestly, the real culprit might be the city itself, all the new tree plantings along the strassen are mostly male clones, zero pollen filtering. i've been rinsing my nose with saline every evening and switching to a hepa filter in the bedroom, helps more than any pill tbh

not just u, even people with zero history are suffering this year, i think the warm winter screwed everything. my doc at the hausarzt said the counts are higher than the 10 year average, especially for grass, which hits later than birch so it feels endless. if ur doing injections, ask about switching to the sublingual drops, some studies show they work better for mixed allergies, and it's less of a hassle than the shots anyway.

the worst part is the city's been planting all these allergenic trees, like the birches along landsberger allee, they're just everywhere. i've started checking the pollen app before planning anything outdoors, and honestly, a quick shower + changing clothes when i get home does more for me than any medication. if u can, try to time ur worst days, the counts peak around 5 am and 8 pm, so staying in during those windows helps a ton.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
