Hi there,

I'm visiting Berlin and would like to travel to Krakow next week.

What would be the best way to get there with two large suites cases weighing 32kg each?

I'm thinking the train, but I'm not sure what train would be best which would have room for our luggage and where we could sit near it comfortably without disturbing other passengers.

Any ideas are welcome.

Thank you.

Two 32kg cases plus hand luggage is really pushing it for any train, honestly. I've done Berlin to Krakow a few times and the FlixBus actually handles this better than people expect, the luggage hold underneath takes whatever you throw at it and you're not hauling cases down a corridor. It's roughly 8 hours overnight from ZOB am Funkturm, and for the price of a couchette you can often get two seats. Downside is the border crossing can add delays, so don't book a tight onward connection in Krakow.

The Berlin-Krakow direct train (EC Wawel) leaves from Hauptbahnhof around 10:40 and gets in early evening, but honestly with 32kg cases I'd look at the PKP Intercity night train instead, it leaves Berlin Ostbahnhof later and you arrive Krakow Glowny in the morning. The compartments have proper luggage racks and you can usually stash big cases under the lower berths. Book a couchette or sleeper directly on the PKP site, not via DB, it's cheaper and you get an actual bed instead of wrestling cases down a narrow corridor.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
