How is it to live in Wilmersdorf with a family compared to Schoneberg ?

depends what ur kids are into honestly. around preussenpark / volkspark wilmersdorf u get the forest playground & the freibad in summer which is huge if ur outside people, while the schoneberg side is more cafe & indoor play hall territory. also check the kita waiting lists early, wilmersdorf has more plätze per kid so u might actually get a spot before ur parental leave ends, in schoneberg ppl i know waited 8 months+. rent gap is real but so is the kita gap

Schöneberg around Winterfeldtplatz gets the family reputation but I'd look at the quieter streets south of Hauptstraße, around Akazienstraße or Belziger Straße. You get the same Altbau stock, a bit less noise, and still walk to everything. One thing nobody mentions: the Bürgeramt situation. Anmeldung and Kinderreisepass appointments are brutal in both districts, so book the moment you have a lease. If you're commuting, Schöneberg wins on U-Bahn access, the U7 gets you to Mitte in about 15 minutes.

wilmersdorf is quieter for kids, more villas & big altbau flats around fasanenplatz, but honestly the schoneberg side near winterfeldtplatz is way more social for families, lots of spielplatze & other parents to actually talk to. downside both are pricey now, we pay 1400 warm for a 3-room in schoneberg & wilmersdorf wouldve been closer to 1700. if ur kid is school age check the grundschule catchment first, that matters more than the kiez tbh

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
