I have got an appointment so far on the 16th of Mai but I would like to anticipate it if possible. As I couldn't book one earlier I'd like to ask you if I have some chances to show up without an appointment at the Kfz-Zulassungsbehörde (preferably the one in Lichtenberg) and get the registration done. If so, at what time is it better to show up?

honestly your best bet is showing up at Lichtenberg right before they open, like 7:30-8am. i've done it twice there and got served both times, but once i came at 10am and they told me to come back another day. bring all your docs photocopied already, they're picky about that. the wait is usually 1-2 hours even if you're early but beats waiting till the 16th

yeah you can try but it's a gamble honestly. if you go to Lichtenberg, aim for 7am latest, people start lining up before 8. the other option is the one in Neukölln, they sometimes take walk-ins in the afternoon if it's quiet, but no guarantees. just make sure you have the TÜV report and all that, they'll turn you away for missing one copy

I'd try the Bürgeramt in Hohenschönhausen instead of Lichtenberg. It's less crowded and I've seen people get walk-in slots after 1pm when the appointment queue dies down. The staff there are also a bit more relaxed about missing one photocopy if you can show it on your phone.

The TÜV deadline is the real pressure point though. If you show up and they're full, ask the security guy directly when the quietest days usually are. Tuesday and Thursday afternoons tend to be the slowest across all Berlin offices.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
