One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the state of private collections that open up on weekends. The Feuerle Collection near the Spree is a proper sensory experience, it's in a former WWII bunker and mixes ancient Asian art with contemporary stuff, you need to book a slot but it's worth the hassle. Also, if you're here on a Sunday, the Flohmarkt at Boxhagener Platz often has people selling prints and small works from local artists, not gallery level but a good way to see what's trending on the street level. For something more structured, the Schinkel Pavillon in Mitte does these tight, focused solo shows that usually get picked up by bigger museums later, I've seen some real discoveries there.

if u're down for something a bit off the usual path, try the sammlung boros, it's a bunker from the war turned private gallery, u gotta book ahead online and it's a guided tour only, but the space itself is wild. also, me collector's room near charlottenburg is tiny but always has sharp curated shows, and it's free which is rare rn. for a chill afternoon, the daskabinett in mitte is a quirky little spot, more like a living room with art, less touristy than the auguststraße stretch tbh.

depends what ur into tbh. if u want the big names, hamburger bahnhof is the move, it's huge and has a lot of the contemporary heavy hitters, but it's a bit of a trek. i'd rather hit up KW Institute for Contemporary Art in mitte, it's smaller but the shows are always weird and good. also check out c/o berlin near potsdamer platz if ur into photography, they always have something solid on.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
