Anyone moved from Potsdam to Berlin (or vice versa)?

Now that it is imminent, a dread started looming over me about leaving this beautiful city. My main concerns were regarding social context, that %95 of friends/dates I am meeting/would like to meet regularly is living in Berlin and it got very exhausting and frustrating to spend 2-3 hours on the train every day I wanted to socialize. Another point is the availability of restaurants, events etc. I feel quite "excluded" somehow and is extremely annoyed when I need to go back home at night and knowing that I can be in my bed only after 2 hours. On the other hand, I like my pretty flat in Potsdam, being close to the lake, and so much nature stuff, plus my already existing sport routines that I built here. At this point I am thinking if I want to move to Berlin because of a huge scale FOMO. I can't speak German but have some friends here in Potsdam, though there is almost no one that I regularly see. I work home office for now so work is irrelevant here. Has any of you made such a move, and how does it feel in comparison?

This is also a stressful vent as much as it is a question. Thanks for reading and possibly answering.

honestly, the train thing is a killer, i get it. i did the reverse move, from friedrichshain to potsdam, and the first few months felt like i was in a weird time warp every time i had to schlep back. but here's the thing: once you're actually in berlin, you'll prob realize you don't need to see people every single night. the fomo fades when the option is always there. i'd say take the flat, keep your potsdam lake routine for weekend mornings, and treat it like a trial run for a year. worst case you move back, best case you stop feeling like a tourist in your own social life.

also, not speaking german matters way less in berlin than potsdam, ngl. you'll find way more english-speaking groups, meetups, even random bar conversations. potsdam is lovely but it's small, and the social ceiling there is real if you're not fluent. the lake will still be there for day trips, you don't lose it forever.

the lake isn't gonna vanish if you leave, you can still go there on weekends. sounds like ur already doing the commute thing you hate, so what's the actual loss here. just try it, worst case you're back in potsdam by summer.

did potsdam to wedding a few years back for basically the same reason. the nature thing feels like a loss at first but honestly you'll trade it for spontaneity, and that's worth more rn. plus you can always hop the sbahn back for a swim when it gets hot, it's not like the lakes disappear. the fomo thing is real but it's also a sign you're outgrowing the quiet life, not that berlin is some magic fix. give it 6 months, if you hate it you can move back, potsdam isn't going anywhere

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
