Anyone has experience with Habyt?

I am about as done with the flat search as one can be, and am about to succumb to a "company owned and administered overpriced room". I know, evil gentrification and this is why the housing situation is so problematic...

Yet, it seems after all, like the lesser of two evils. I literally encountered every type of scam you can name, and dealt with crazy people both extremes of the sphere (from everything is allowed - this is a drug den to you can't shower every day or be home during the day).

Mods: this is a Berlin centric and focus on the city as finding house is increasingly difficult and other Berliners may be in the same situation as me and this may help more than one person.

i had a friend in a habyt place in wedding for about 6 months. the flat itself was fine, clean, no issues with roommates but the management was a pain when she needed to switch rooms. they tried to charge her an extra "administration fee" for a simple transfer within the same building, and getting the deposit back took over 3 months. if you're just looking for a bridge for 3-4 months while you find something better, it works, but treat it like a hotel not a home. check the alexanderplatz area too, some of their buildings are in older plattenbauten with thin walls

Honestly, Habyt and the others are fine as a temporary solution. I had a friend in one near Warschauer and the main issue was the revolving door of flatmates, people came and went every couple months so you never really got settled. The rooms are small but the internet usually works and you get your Anmeldung without a fight, which is more than you can say for a lot of sublets.

The real catch is the pricing. You'll pay maybe 100-150 euro more than what a comparable room in a normal WG would cost, but you're paying for the convenience of not dealing with scammers or weird hauptmieter rules. If your budget can handle it and you just need to stop looking, sign a short contract and keep searching from a stable base. Mitte and Kreuzberg locations tend to be the loudest, if you want sleep go for something in Wedding or Moabit instead.

i know a few people who went with habyt and it's pretty much what you'd expect for a company-run WG. the rooms are clean and you avoid the scam headache but the rent is noticeably higher than what you'd pay in a normal WG and you get zero flexibility on anything. one friend had a problem with their heating in winter and it took them weeks to get someone out because it's all through a customer service ticket system. the plus side is that you can move in fast and leave with proper notice but it feels more like a dorm than an actual shared flat. if you're really at your wit's end it's not the worst option but try to find a contract that's month-to-month so you can keep looking for something better

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
