🌋 Explore Los Nevados
Los Nevados National Natural Park is the main reason many travelers come to Manizales, and the 2026 season is a great time to visit. Book a guided tour from the city center; operators like EcoTur and Parques Nacionales run day trips from $60 to $90, including transport and lunch. The journey starts early, around 5:00 a.m., and takes you up to the snow-capped Nevado del Ruiz. Remember to acclimatize first, as the altitude reaches 4,800 meters.

☕ Coffee Farm Tours
Manizales sits in the heart of the Coffee Triangle, and visiting a working farm is a must. Hacienda Venecia, about 30 minutes from the city, offers tours from $25 that cover the entire process from bean to cup. For a more intimate experience, try Finca Romelia near Chinchiná, where you can pick coffee and stay overnight. Most tours include tastings and last around three hours.

🏛️ Architecture and Views
The Catedral de Manizales, a towering Gothic structure, is the city's icon and offers panoramic views from its tower for $3. Nearby, the Plaza de Bolívar is perfect for people-watching and trying local snacks like obleas. Don't miss the Chipre neighborhood, where the Monumento al Bolívar Condor marks the spot for stunning sunsets over the Andes.

♨️ Hot Springs and Relaxation
After hiking, unwind at the Termales del Otoño, natural hot springs about 45 minutes from Manizales. Entry costs around $15, and the pools are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For a more rustic experience, try Termales Tierra Viva, which is less crowded and offers mud treatments. Bring a swimsuit and a towel, as rentals are limited.

🚠 Ride the Cable Car
The Cable Aéreo connects the city center with the suburb of Villamaría, offering spectacular views of the mountains. A one-way ticket costs about $1, and the ride takes 15 minutes. It's a great way to see how locals commute and to access hiking trails on the other side. The system runs from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

🎭 Festivals and Culture
Manizales is famous for its Feria de Manizales in January, featuring bullfights, parades, and concerts. If you visit in 2026, check the dates for the 69th edition, usually the first week of January. The city also hosts the Festival Internacional de Teatro in September, with street performances across town. Check local listings for exact schedules.

🥾 Hiking and Nature
Beyond Los Nevados, the Recinto del Pensamiento nature reserve offers trails through cloud forest and a butterfly farm. Entrance is $8, and it's a 20-minute taxi ride from the center. For a challenging hike, head to Cerro de Oro, a 2-hour climb that rewards you with views of the city and the surrounding coffee farms.

🍽️ Local Food Scene
Don't leave without trying a bandeja paisa at Restaurante El Corral, a local favorite near the cathedral. For something lighter, visit the Mercado Central, where you can sample fresh fruit and arepas from stalls open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. In the evening, the Zona Rosa around Avenida Santander comes alive with restaurants and bars.

Worth adding: the coffee farm tours are much better in the morning picking window, so book the first slot. I did Hacienda Venecia around 8 a.m. and had the whole process to myself before the afternoon buses arrived. Also, the road up to the nevado can be rough on motion sickness, take something before the 5 a.m. pickup.

Booking the paramo hike through a hostel in Palogrande got me a small group and a guide who actually knew the frailejones, unlike the big tour buses.

Appreciate the detail; book the Recinto del Pensamiento butterfly farm slot early since weekend groups cap at ten.

Start your first day in Manizales at the Plaza de Bolívar, the city's main square, where you can admire the Catedral Basílica and its impressive 113-meter tower. From there, walk two blocks to the Palacio de Gobernación and the Casa de la Cultura, which often host free art exhibitions. Grab a coffee at Café La Bastilla (Calle 19 #22-12), a local favorite with beans from nearby farms, open from 8:00 AM. Alternatively, enjoy fusion cuisine at Donde Beto (Calle 66 #23-45), known for its creative take on local ingredients. End the night with a craft beer at Cervecería Tres Cordilleras (Carrera 23 #64-10), open until 11:00 PM.

☕ Day 2 Morning: Coffee Farm Tour
Dedicate your second morning to Colombia's coffee culture with a visit to a nearby farm. Book in advance through their website. If you prefer a closer option, the Café Cultor experience in the center (Calle 21 #23-45) provides a 2-hour workshop starting at 10:00 AM for COP 40,000.

🚡 Day 2 Afternoon: Cable Car and La Suiza
After lunch, take the Cable Aéreo from the Fundadores station to La Suiza, a scenic 15-minute ride (COP 2,500) that offers stunning views of the mountains. In La Suiza, explore the quiet streets and stop at the Mirador de La Suiza for photos. Return to the center by cable car and visit the nearby Museo del Oro (Calle 19 #22-45), which displays pre-Columbian gold artifacts and is open until 5:00 PM (free entry).

Spend the evening in the center, where many bars and restaurants stay open late. Start with a cocktail at Bar 20/20 (Carrera 22 #19-10), a cozy spot with live music on weekends. For dinner, try the Argentine-style steaks at Parrilla La Estancia (Calle 20 #21-30), with mains around COP 30,000. On your final morning, escape to the Termales del Otoño, a natural hot spring complex about 30 minutes by taxi (COP 25,000) from the center. The pools open at 9:00 AM, and entry costs COP 30,000 for adults. Soak in the mineral-rich waters while enjoying views of the surrounding forest. Bring a swimsuit and towel, as rentals are limited. For a more rustic experience, consider Termales Tierra Viva, a 40-minute drive (COP 35,000) with smaller pools and a quieter atmosphere.

🛍️ Day 3 Afternoon: Shopping and Departure
Return to the city by 1:00 PM and have lunch at Mercado Central (Carrera 22 #20-30), where you can sample local fruits and arepas for under COP 15,000. Then browse for souvenirs at the Centro Comercial Fundadores (Carrera 23 #25-50), which has shops selling coffee, crafts, and clothing. If you're heading to the airport, allow 30 minutes by taxi (COP 20,000) from the center; the bus (COP 2,500) takes about 45 minutes. For a smooth departure, aim to leave the center by 3:00 PM for domestic flights.
