the xiaoji noodle house mention is legit, but their beef noodles are good in a different way than what most people expect. the broth is lighter than standard, almost clear but super savory, and they hand pull the noodles right in the window so you can watch. i'd say get there right at 11 when they open or you're waiting 20 minutes minimum for a seat
for the hotpot section, haidilao's fine but it's a chain, you can get that anywhere. there's a place called Guo Li Zhuang on Wenhua Road near the night market that does a hotpot with pickled cabbage and pork ribs, runs about 60 per person and the broth is way more interesting. they also give you free popsicles after you finish which is random but nice in summer
the daoxiangcun bakery tip is good but their sesame balls sell out by noon most days. if you go in the morning you can get them fresh out of the fryer, way better than the reheated ones later. the peanut cake at old street bakery is underrated though, i grab one whenever i'm on that side of town

honestly the Wenhua night market tip is real but i'd add that the weekends get packed to the point where you're bumping elbows with everyone. go on a tuesday or wednesday if you can, way more chill and the vendors are less rushed so the food's fresher

honestly the guide really nails the erqi district for first-timers. i'd add that if you're there on a weekend the underground shopping malls near erqi square are a whole vibe, tons of local street food stalls and cheap clothes. just be ready for crowds, it gets packed around 4pm when everyone's off work.
one thing the guide missed is the area around nanyang road in jinshui. it's got this old-school zhengzhou feel with those plane trees lining the street and a bunch of small tea houses. i found a place called chayi tea house there that does a solid tieguanyin for like 15 cny a pot, great spot to kill an afternoon. it's a 10 minute walk from the zoo but way less touristy.
