One thing about the Danxia park that's easy to miss is that the shuttle buses run a loop to four viewing platforms, and each one gives a different perspective on the colors. If you have time, skip the fourth stop and double back to the second one around 5 PM when the light hits it right.

honestly this is a great itinerary, covers the main stuff without being too packed. one thing i'd add for the danxia park that nobody mentions is the weather app trick. check the forecast for linze county instead of zhangye city, the geopark is closer to linze and the weather there can be totally different. i showed up on a day that said "clear" in zhangye and got fogged out at the park
for the giant buddha temple, if you're there around noon the light comes through the windows in a way that hits the buddha's face just right, makes for a decent photo without filters. it's a specific time thing though, like 11:45 to 12:15 or so
the wood pagoda on day three is underrated, most people walk past it to get to the drum tower but the pagoda's got original ming dynasty brackets on the upper levels that you can see if you look up from the base. takes five minutes and it's free
also for getting around, the taxi flat rate is 5 yuan within the old city walls but if you cross the river to the new development area they'll try to charge 10. just insist on 5 and they'll usually give in

The drum tower climb is a good suggestion, but the real view is from the top of the Wooden Pagoda on day three. It's not usually open to climb, but if you ask the caretaker nicely they might let you up the first two levels. The lattice work up there is original Ming dynasty and you can see the whole city layout from a different angle than the drum tower.
