solid guide, you got the main stuff down. just a heads up on the new city park, if you go in the late afternoon you'll see a bunch of older guys playing chinese chess under the big banyan tree near the east gate, they're happy to let you watch or even join for a game. also if you're there on a sunday morning there's a small pet market that pops up by the lake entrance, mostly birds and goldfish but it's a fun little scene
The stone pot fish head at Laojie is good but if you want the real local experience, head to the night market on Wenming Road instead. There is a stall run by a family that does a spicy version with pickled chilies that cuts through the richness better than the standard one. They set up around 6pm and it is usually packed with workers from the nearby stone factories.
For the caves, Panlong is the main one but if you have time, take a short bus out to Panshi Cave about 20 minutes south. It is less polished and the lighting is dimmer, but the formations are more dramatic and there are almost no tourists. You will need to bring a flashlight for some sections and the entrance is only 30 yuan.
for a different angle on the stone scene, check out the small shops along yucai road near the old market, they sell offcuts from the factories for basically nothing. picked up a nice polished marble coaster set for 15 yuan, and the guy running the place showed me how they do the cutting with water jets. way more hands-on than the museum.
also the bus to panshi cave is bus 8 from the south station, runs every 30 mins and takes about 25 mins. the driver will let you know where to get off if you say "panshi yan"

I've stayed in both downtown and Luoding, and I'd actually recommend Luoding for anyone who wants to see a different side of Yunfu. The guesthouses near the Confucian Temple are basic but the owners are usually retired locals who'll point you to the best dim sum spots on Wenming Road for like 8 RMB a plate. Downtown is fine for convenience but Luoding feels more like actual life happening around you.
One thing the guide misses is that the bus from downtown to Luoding takes about an hour and costs 15 RMB, but the last one leaves around 7pm. I missed it once and had to pay 80 RMB for a Didi back, so plan accordingly. Also, the Longshan Temple area has a small hiking trail that goes up the hill behind it, free to walk and gives you a good view of the whole county.
honestly the guide undersells the food scene in downtown yunfu. there's a wonton place on yingbin road, like a 5 min walk from wanda plaza, that's been there for like 20 years. their wontons are handmade and the broth is super rich, costs like 12 RMB for a big bowl. it's not on any map but it's where i go every time im back
also if you're staying in the new district, skip the hotel breakfast and walk to the morning market on yuncheng avenue. you can get fresh soy milk and youtiao for like 5 RMB total. the crowne plaza breakfast is 88 RMB and honestly not worth it compared to that
one thing nobody mentions is the cab situation late at night. after midnight, didi can take 15-20 mins to find a driver in yunfu, especially in the new district or yunan county. if youre out late downtown, just walk to the main road and flag down a taxi, they cruise around more than the app suggests
The guide nails it with the New District being quieter, but I'd add that the Crowne Plaza there has a solid afternoon tea setup in the lobby lounge, around 68 RMB per person, which is a nice break if you're tired of street food. For a change of pace, try the hotpot places on Chengxi Road near the old textile factory, they do a lamb-based broth that's hard to find elsewhere in town. One thing I noticed staying downtown is that the Wanda Plaza area gets packed on weekends, so if you want a calmer dinner, head a few blocks east to the side streets near the Yunfu Museum for smaller family-run restaurants with better prices.
