๐Ÿœ Must-Try Local Dishes
Yicheng is famous for its hearty beef noodles, slow-cooked for hours with local spices. Another staple is the savory pancake stuffed with minced pork and chives, often sold for breakfast. Don't miss the sweet fermented rice soup, a refreshing dessert that costs around 5 yuan.

๐Ÿฎ Top Restaurants
For a sit-down meal, head to Lao Wang Beef Noodle at 45 Zhongshan Road, open daily from 7 AM to 9 PM. A large bowl costs 18 to 25 yuan. Another favorite is Xiangwei Kitchen at 12 Renmin Street, known for its braised pork and claypot rice, with mains from 30 to 50 yuan.

๐Ÿ›’ Street Food Stalls
The night market on Xinhua Road comes alive after 6 PM, offering grilled skewers, stinky tofu, and fried dumplings. Most skewers are 2 to 5 yuan each. Try the stall near the east gate for the best cumin lamb skewers.

๐Ÿš Breakfast Spots
Start your day at the morning market on Jiefang Street, open from 5:30 AM to 9 AM. Vendors sell soy milk, youtiao, and steamed buns for under 10 yuan. The rice noodle stall at the corner of Wenhua Road is a local favorite, with bowls from 6 yuan.

๐Ÿข Evening Snacks
After dark, the area around Yicheng University buzzes with late-night eats. Look for the cart selling spicy cold noodles at 88 Xuefu Road, open until 2 AM, with prices around 8 yuan. Another gem is the roasted sweet potato stand near the bus station, perfect for a warm treat.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Vegetarian Options
Sujia Vegetarian at 33 Lvyin Street offers mock meats and fresh vegetable dishes, with mains from 25 to 40 yuan. Open daily 11 AM to 8 PM. For a quick bite, the tofu pudding stall in the old town serves savory or sweet versions for 5 yuan.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Budget Tips
You can eat well for under 50 yuan a day if you stick to street food and small eateries. A filling bowl of noodles costs 10 to 15 yuan, and a plate of dumplings is around 12 yuan. Avoid touristy areas near the main square, where prices double.

๐ŸšŒ Getting Around
Most food spots are within walking distance in the city center, but you can take bus 3 or 7 to reach the night market. A taxi ride across town costs about 10 yuan. Bicycles are also available for rent at 2 yuan per hour.

solid list overall, covers more ground than most Yicheng food posts i've seen.

one thing nobody's flagged yet, the guide treats everything as year round but the beef noodle broth changes with the season. in summer most shops lighten it and add more star anise, winter they go heavy on the bone and it's a completely different bowl. if you only come once, come in winter.

also the 50 yuan a day budget is doable but tight if you drink. nothing on here mentions that most of these places don't serve alcohol and the ones that do charge city prices, like 10 to 15 yuan for a beer at Xiangwei. street stalls you can sometimes BYO from the little shop on the corner, nobody cares.

and fwiw the roasted sweet potato cart near the bus station is the same guy who used to be by the university, he moved last autumn. still good, just don't go looking for him at 88 Xuefu Road anymore.

Good rundown, though I'd push back a little on Lao Wang being the go-to for beef noodles. It's solid and convenient, but the bowl at the tiny place on Minzhu Road, no sign, just a red lantern by the door, is richer and costs 15 yuan. They sell out by around 1 PM so you have to go early.

One thing the guide missed is the seasonal stuff. Right now through early spring, the morning market on Jiefang Street has fresh caozhi (a local herb they fold into rice cakes), and it's only around for a few weeks. Also worth knowing that most stalls there switch to cash only when it gets busy, so keep small notes on you.

Appreciate you putting this together, its the most complete Yicheng food list ive seen in english.

one thing worth adding, the guide treats Lao Wang and Xiangwei as the sit down picks but neither is where locals go for a proper meal. ask any cab driver about yexiao, the late grill spots that dont open til 10pm, and youll end up at the row of tents behind the bus station. no menu, you just point at what looks good. cumin lamb, chicken hearts, grilled eggplant with garlic, all of it. a full feed for two runs

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Day 1: Old Town
Start your first day in Yicheng's Old Town, where narrow lanes are packed with Ming-era architecture. Begin at the Drum Tower (open 8:30-17:30, entry 30 CNY) and climb to the top for a panoramic view. From there, wander south to the Confucius Temple (10 CNY) and the adjacent Ancient Street, where you can sample local snacks like sesame cakes and stinky tofu. Plan to spend about four hours here before lunch.

๐Ÿœ Lunch and Local Eats
For lunch, head to the bustling Food Street on East Avenue, about a 10-minute walk from the Ancient Street. Try the signature Yicheng noodle soup at Lao Zhang Noodle House (open 11:00-14:00, bowls from 12 CNY). If you prefer a sit-down meal, the nearby Riverside Restaurant offers river fish and local vegetables for around 60 CNY per person. After eating, take a short stroll along the canal to digest.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Afternoon Museums
In the afternoon, visit the Yicheng Museum (free entry, closed Mondays) on Renmin Road, a 15-minute walk from the Food Street. The museum's collection covers local history from Neolithic times to the Qing dynasty, with excellent English labels. Afterwards, walk 10 minutes to the former residence of the poet Li Qingzhao (20 CNY, open until 17:00), a peaceful courtyard house with a small garden. Finish your cultural afternoon with a cup of tea at the on-site teahouse.

๐ŸŒ† Evening Riverside Walk
As dusk falls, take a leisurely walk along the East River embankment, which is lit with lanterns from 18:30. The path starts at the old ferry terminal and runs for about 2 kilometers, passing several viewing platforms. For dinner, choose one of the floating restaurants moored near the South Bridge; a typical meal of river shrimp and fried rice costs about 80 CNY. End the night with a boat ride (40 CNY per person, last departure 21:00) to see the city lights from the water.

๐ŸšŒ Day 2: West Hills
On day two, take bus 12 from the central station to the West Hills scenic area, a 40-minute ride that costs 2 CNY. The hills are known for their limestone caves and hiking trails, with the main entrance fee at 60 CNY. Start with the Crystal Cave tour (guided, lasts 1 hour) and then hike the loop trail to the summit, which takes about 2.5 hours. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes, as the path is uneven in places.

๐Ÿž๏ธ Picnic and Waterfall
After descending, have a picnic lunch at the designated area near the entrance, where there are tables and a small shop selling snacks. If you have energy, walk 20 minutes to the Hidden Waterfall, a lesser-known spot that is usually uncrowded. The waterfall is best after rain, so check the weather forecast. Alternatively, take the shuttle bus (10 CNY) back to the main gate and relax at the lakeside teahouse.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Evening Shopping Street
Return to the city center by bus 12 (last bus at 18:30) and spend the evening on Pedestrian Street, which is closed to cars after 18:00. Browse the local handicraft shops for bamboo weaving and paper umbrellas, with prices starting at 20 CNY. For dinner, try the hotpot restaurant at the north end of the street, where a set meal for two is about 120 CNY. The street is lively until 22:00, with street performers and food stalls.

๐Ÿšฒ Day 3: Cycling Loop
On your final day, rent a bicycle from one of the city's public bike stations (first hour free, then 1 CNY per hour) and follow the Greenway Loop that circles the old city walls. The loop is 12 kilometers and takes about 2 hours at a leisurely pace, with several rest stops and viewpoints. Along the way, you'll pass the South Gate Ruins and the Lotus Pond, where you can stop for photos. The route is mostly flat and well-marked, making it suitable for casual riders.

๐Ÿต Tea House Farewell
End your trip with a traditional tea ceremony at the Qingfeng Teahouse (open 10:00-22:00) on West Lake Road, a 10-minute walk from the bike station. A pot of local green tea costs 35 CNY, and you can order light snacks like sunflower seeds and dried fruit. The teahouse has a second-floor balcony overlooking the lake, perfect for reflecting on your visit. After tea, take a final stroll through the nearby park before heading to the station.

yeah the old town part is right but dont sleep on the food street at night, the stalls switch up after 8pm and you get the real local crowd, not just tourists. the day stalls are fine but the grilled river snails near the south bridge end are legit, 5 yuan a skewer and way better than the noodle soup imo. also the drum tower climb is worth it but go right at 8:30 opening, by 10 the steps get packed with tour groups and youll be stuck behind slow climbers the whole way up. for the bike loop, the south gate ruins section has a little detour path down to the water, most people miss it, but its a nice quiet spot to sit and watch the fishing boats come in around noon. and if ur at the qingfeng teahouse, skip the green tea and try the osmanthus oolong, its 5 yuan more but the smell hits different with the lake breeze.

arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

honestly the greenway loop on day 3 is the hidden gem here, most tourists skip it but the section past the Lotus Pond around 9am is dead quiet and you'll have the whole path to yourself. the public bikes are fine but check the brakes before you go, a few of them are janky, and the first hour free trick works if you dock and re-rent at the South Gate Ruins stop. for the tea house, grab the balcony seat facing west, the sunset over the lake is way better than the morning light, and they'll refill your pot with hot water for free up to three times. one thing the guide missed: the stinky tofu on Ancient Street gets way better after 5pm when the old lady who's been there 20 years sets up her cart, the daytime stalls are touristy and bland.

arrow_drop_up 11 arrow_drop_down

solid plan, really covers the bases. one thing i'd swap: the museum on day 1 is fine but if you're there on a weekend, the west hills get packed by 11am, so consider flipping day 1 and 2. the old town is calmer in the afternoon anyway, and the caves are way better with fewer people. the crystal cave tour guides are locals who know the geology, ask them about the bat colony in the back chamber, they'll usually tell you where to look if you tip 5 yuan.

for the evening boat ride, skip the floating restaurants near south bridge, the food's average and the boats rock when big groups board. instead grab a takeaway bowl of the river shrimp fried rice from the stall just north of the old ferry terminal, 15 yuan, and eat it on the embankment before the lanterns come on. the view from the stone steps by the second viewing platform is better than any restaurant table.

the greenway loop is great but the public bikes near the east gate have a trick: the dock at the lotus pond stop is downhill, so you can coast in and the return registers faster. also, the noodle stand on the dirt path after the south gate ruins, the retired couple, they run out of the pickled vegetable soup by 12:30 most days, so get there early, and bring cash, they don't take cards.

one last thing, the qingfeng teahouse balcony
