that chen's noodle house tip is spot on, the dan dan noodles there are the real deal. if you want a twist on it though, try the sister shop on 78 Jiefang, same family but they do a dry version with crushed peanuts that's even better for hot days. the old town walk is great but don't skip the little courtyard behind the wang family mansion, there's a tiny calligraphy studio that lets you try writing for like 5 RMB. also the bus 202 to mount yan runs every 20 minutes but it stops running after 6 PM so plan ur return or you'll be stuck paying 40 RMB for a taxi back
yeah the Sichuan Opera tip is good but tbh the best seat isnt in the front row like most people think, the middle section gives you a better view of the face-changing since the performers move around a lot. i sat in row 3 last time and kept missing the angle when they turned
honestly this is a solid guide, the only thing i'd add is the morning market on West Street near the old town gate. it runs from like 6 to 9am and you can get fresh youtiao and soy milk for like 5 RMB total, way better than any tourist breakfast spot. the vendors are super friendly and you'll see half the city there before work starts
also the Mount Yan hike is worth it but if you go on a weekend morning it gets crowded by 10am so start earlier if you want the summit to yourself. i did it at 7am last month and had the whole view to myself until about 9:30
one thing the guide doesnt mention is the small temple at the base of Mount Yan, its called Qinglong Temple and entry is free. the caretaker there makes his own tea and will let you try some if you chat with him for a bit. really cool hidden spot

for the thousand buddha grottoes, the taxi drivers at the main rank might try to charge you 80 yuan instead of 60, just negotiate or use a ride app to lock in the price. and honestly the central market is a bit chaotic around lunchtime, go later like 3pm when it's calmer and the vendors are more willing to haggle on the bamboo crafts. the tea at stall 23 is legit though, that's where i always stock up before heading out.
