this is a solid itinerary, covers the main spots. one thing i'd add for day 2 on hailing island - skip the main beach area for lunch and walk 10 mins north to the small village near the fishing pier. there's a family-run place called lin's kitchen that does a killer steamed fish with ginger and soy for like 40 yuan, way better than the tourist trap restaurants lining the main strip.
also for the knife shopping on nan'en road, dont bother with the big shiny stores. the little shop two doors down from the old tea house has better quality scissors and cleavers for half the price. i picked up a chef's knife there last year that still holds an edge like crazy. just look for the faded red sign with no english, you'll know it

also for the zhapo bay sunset on day 1, instead of eating right at the fishing port stalls, walk about 5 mins further down the promenade past the big hotel. there's a little concrete jetty where the locals fish, way fewer tourists and the light is gorgeous for photos. the grilled fish platters there are the same 60 yuan but they use fresher catch since they're further from the main crowds

fwiw that family-friendly section on golden beach is spot on but the marriott is a bit overpriced for what it is. i stayed at a smaller place called hailing island seaview guesthouse right on the same road, 350 a night with a balcony facing the water and the owner let us use his bikes for free. way more chill than the big resorts and the seafood stalls just north of golden beach road are half the price of the ones right on the sand
for getting around the bus tip is good but if you're going to the east side of hailing island, the local minibuses are even better. they're these little white vans that honk at you, just flag one down on the main road, they'll take you anywhere for like 2 yuan and you don't have to wait at a bus stop. also the bus station area is fine for budget stays but honestly the street food on dongfeng road at night is where it's at, the grilled oysters are like 10 yuan for a dozen and they're shucking them right there on the sidewalk
yeah the bus station area tip is solid, i stayed near there last year and found a random guesthouse for like 100 a night, not fancy but clean and the lady running it made me breakfast for free. if you're into hiking, try the trails up in the hills behind Jiangcheng District, there's an old temple halfway up with killer views of the coast, no one talks about it
the guide's right about zhapo town being the main beach spot but honestly most people miss the little fishing village on the east side of hailing island, past the marriott. there's a handful of family-run guesthouses there for like 150-250 a night, no english signs or anything, but the seafood is straight off the boats and you can watch them dry squid on the sidewalk. just take the local bus route 2 from zhapo terminal, it's like 3 yuan and runs every 20 minutes until 8pm
