honestly the Yandu Ancient Town is worth a lazy afternoon but dont expect too much, its more of a nice stroll than a full day thing. The fried tofu there is decent but the real hidden gem is the little stall near the north gate that does these sesame balls with red bean paste, only like 3 RMB each. If you go on a weekday afternoon its pretty quiet and you can actually chat with the shop owners without crowds.
honestly the Yandu Ancient Town is underrated compared to the nature spots. i went on a random Tuesday and had the canals almost to myself, the fried tofu stall near the south gate is run by this old couple who've been there for like 20 years, 5 RMB for a huge portion. also if you're into photography, the light hits the stone bridges around 3 PM in autumn and makes the whole place glow, way better than the busy weekends when tour groups flood in
yeah the guide covers the big spots but one thing i'd add is the Yancheng Museum near Century Park, its free and has a surprisingly good exhibit on the salt trade history. theres this huge diorama of old salt fields with tiny worker figurines, took me like 20 minutes to look at all the details. only takes an hour or so but its a nice break if the weather turns bad or you just need to get out of the sun for a bit.

Yancheng nightlife for a quick solo trip?
wanda plaza is fine but its mostly chains & gets dead by 11 on weekdays. if ur here on a weekend check the small bars along jiefang road, closer to the old town side, thats where locals actually drink. solo is fine there, ppl are chatty after a few, just dont expect much english
if ur into live music there's a couple small bars near Yancheng Normal University area, students keep em open late and its easy to just sit at the bar solo. ngl weekends are teh only time worth going out tho, weeknights everything shuts by like 10
honestly Yancheng nightlife is pretty laid back, not a huge club scene. try the area around Wanda Plaza, few bars there where solo folks can just grab a drink. jin sha hu area has some too if u want something quieter
