fwiw the guide's right about the jianbing on jiefang and huanghai but the real move is getting it with an extra egg and crispy cracker for 2 rmb more, makes it way better. also the guy there only takes wechat pay not cash so have your phone ready
the farmers market on huanghai is great but go early like 7am if you want the freshest seafood, by 10am the good stuff's picked over. there's an old couple at the back left corner who sell these amazing dried shrimp that are perfect for snacking while you wander, 15 rmb for a big bag
one thing nobody's mentioned is the cold noodle stall at the night market, it's near the entrance on the right side. they do a sesame sauce noodle with cucumber and bean sprouts that's super refreshing on hot days, only 12 rmb and the owner's really nice about letting you sample the sauce first
the salted duck at yancheng restaurant is legit, but if you want it more authentic try the small shop on jianjun road near the old north gate. they've been doing it for like 30 years and the skin is way crispier, plus a whole duck is only 45 rmb. also the osmanthus flower cake near the confucian temple is good but get there before 10am or they sell out
Good to see someone put together a proper guide for Yancheng. I'd add that the Dongtai Fish Soup at the hole-in-the-wall on 5 Jianjun Road is my go-to over the seafood house version, the herbal broth is lighter and doesn't leave you thirsty after. The osmanthus flower cake tip is spot on but I'd say get there by 9:30 to be safe, the stall near the Confucian Temple only makes about 60 a day and locals buy them by the half-dozen.

Yancheng nightlife for a quick solo trip?
wanda plaza is fine but its mostly chains & gets dead by 11 on weekdays. if ur here on a weekend check the small bars along jiefang road, closer to the old town side, thats where locals actually drink. solo is fine there, ppl are chatty after a few, just dont expect much english
if ur into live music there's a couple small bars near Yancheng Normal University area, students keep em open late and its easy to just sit at the bar solo. ngl weekends are teh only time worth going out tho, weeknights everything shuts by like 10
honestly Yancheng nightlife is pretty laid back, not a huge club scene. try the area around Wanda Plaza, few bars there where solo folks can just grab a drink. jin sha hu area has some too if u want something quieter
