the fairy lake walk is really nice at sunset, way fewer people and the light hits the water just right. if you're there on a weekend tho, the gaoqiang opera is worth catching even if you don't understand it, the costumes are wild and the singing is intense. skip the victory road market for produce unless you're early, after 9am it gets packed with tour groups. for noodles, i actually prefer the stall outside the confucian temple over laojie, same price but they char the pork a bit over charcoal which gives it a smoky taste.
If you're into photography, Fairy Lake is best in the early morning when the mist is still sitting on the water.
