But if you take the left fork at the first rest pavilion instead of the main loop, you'll hit a smaller pagoda with a better view of the reservoir. Also, bring 10 CNY in coins for the vending machine at the summit, it's the only one on the trail and it saves you from hiking back down dehydrated.

i've done this exact itinerary a couple times and it works well for a short trip. one thing the guide doesn't mention is that qingyun mountain park has a small temple at the top with a guy who sells fresh sugarcane juice for like 5 yuan a cup, really good on a warm day. also the museum on fuqian street is worth it but their air conditioning is spotty so go early before it gets hot
for the botanical garden, the bus route 1 can be confusing cause there's two different stops with similar names. make sure you tell the driver "dongjiao zhiwuyuan" or they might drop you at the wrong place. happened to me once and i ended up walking an extra kilometer
the wetland park tip from the other comment is solid, i'd add that there's a small watchtower near the back where you can see the whole park from above. just watch your step getting up there, the stairs are a bit uneven
hey this is a solid itinerary, i've spent a bit of time in xintai myself. one thing i'd add is that the fried pancake stalls on wenhua road are best around 11am when they're freshly made, later in the day they get a bit greasy. also, the moonlit bar on jiefang road is decent but if you want something quieter, try the tea house on the east side of qingyun lake, it's tucked away and has good local oolong for like 15 yuan a pot
for the taishan day trip, the bus from xintai bus station is fine but it drops you at the back entrance, not the main one. you'll need to walk an extra 20 minutes to get to the proper trailhead. i'd recommend taking the direct taxi from xintai instead, it's about 60 yuan but saves you the hassle and time
also, the botanical garden is nice but the wetland park is really the hidden gem, especially if you go in the late afternoon when the light is softer. saw some herons there last spring

One thing about the Qingyun Mountain Park that people miss is the path that goes around the back of the hill instead of straight up. It's a bit longer but the shade from the old locust trees makes it much more pleasant in summer. Takes about 25 minutes instead of 15 but you'll thank yourself if it's hot.
For the night market on Wenhua Road, the fried pancake stall next to the pharmacy at the corner is the original one that started the trend. The others are fine but that family has been there since the 90s and their recipe is a bit different, less oil more scallion. Gets a line around 7pm.
If you have extra time on day two, the small Confucius temple on Yanshi Street is worth a quick stop. It's not on most tourist maps but it's free and usually empty. The caretaker is an old guy who might offer you tea if he's around, just nod and say xie xie.
