honestly the itinerary is well put together but you're missing the best part of xiaoganzhan which is the early morning wet market on jiefang road. it starts around 6am and wraps up by 9 so it's a tight window but you'll see the real city there. old ladies selling pickled vegetables and fresh river fish straight from the han, plus a guy who makes sesame pancakes in a clay oven for 3 CNY each. grab one on your way to the museum
for day 2 i'd actually start qinglong mountain earlier than 7 if you can. the sunrise from the pagoda at the top is worth the 5am metro ride and the park technically opens at 6 for morning exercisers. there's a group of tai chi people who practice at the base around 6:30 and they'll let you join in if you ask. had a really calm moment doing that last spring
the grand theatre tip is good but check if the xiaoganzhan philharmonic is playing at the cultural center instead. it's a smaller venue on wenhua road, tickets are like 40 CNY and the acoustics are better. the building itself is this brutalist concrete thing from the 80s that looks like a soviet bus station but inside it's gorgeous. my favorite cheap evening in town honestly

for the museum, check if they're running the temporary exhibit in the east wing on the second floor. it rotates every 3 months and last time i was there they had this incredible collection of han dynasty burial figurines that were excavated just outside town in 2019. the permanent collection is good but the temp stuff is where the real gems hide
one practical thing nobody mentions - the metro card kiosks at the station only take cash for the deposit (20 CNY) but you can top up with alipay or wechat after that. saves you fumbling for coins if you're arriving with only cards
ngl this is a solid itinerary but you're skipping one of my favorite spots - the old tea market on Fujian Street, just a 5 min walk from Renmin Square. it's not in any guidebook but the vendors let you sample pu'er and oolong for free before you buy, and a bag of decent loose leaf runs like 30-50 CNY
also if you're at qinglong mountain, the vegetarian house is decent but i'd grab the stinky tofu from the old lady with the cart just outside the park gate instead. costs 8 CNY for a skewer and she's been there for like 15 years, way more authentic than the sit-down place
one thing about the metro - line 2 gets packed around 5pm especially near the station, so if you're heading back from the museum around closing time, consider walking 10 mins to the next stop at hongqi road instead. same price, way less crowded, and you pass that bakery with the egg tarts for 4 CNY each

honestly the ceramic workshop is a hidden gem that most tourists skip. i took the 90 minute class last month and the master there, Mr. Chen, has been doing this for 40 years - he'll correct your hand positioning without making you feel dumb. my bowl came out kinda lopsided but they fired it anyway and it's now my favorite coffee mug at home
one thing the guide doesn't mention is that the greenway has a shortcut near the Qingyi River bridge that cuts off about 3 km if you're tired. there's a tiny dumpling stall under the bridge where the lady makes them fresh for 8 RMB a dozen, way better than anything in the night market imo. just follow the path past the second rest stop and you'll see her blue cart around 4 PM
yeah the guide nails the basics but they missed a good spot for breakfast before the old town gets busy. there's a place called Auntie Liu's on a side alley off Renmin Road, just look for the red lanterns near the post office. she does these steamed buns stuffed with pickled bamboo and pork for 3 RMB each, they're way better than the ones at the morning market and she's open from 5:30 AM so you can grab some before heading to Zhongxin Square.
the shadow puppet show is solid but if you're around on a saturday afternoon, the same theater does a free outdoor performance in the small park behind it at 3 PM. it's shorter, like 30 minutes, but you get to sit on these stone benches under a big banyan tree and the acoustics are actually better than inside. just bring a cushion if you have one, those benches get hard after a while.
I have to say the bamboo forest tip in this guide is spot on but they left out that the tea house there serves a really good osmanthus flower tea for 10 RMB. If you go early enough, like right when it opens at 7 AM, you'll have the whole place to yourself and might spot some wild monkeys near Yinlong Waterfall. I've done that hike maybe a dozen times and the mist coming off the falls in the morning light is something else.
For the night market, I'd add that the grilled tofu stall third from the south end on Jiefang Road is the one the locals queue at, not the bigger ones in the middle. The owner's been there for 25 years and his spicy sauce recipe is a family secret. Just a heads up that the market gets packed by 8 PM so go earlier if you want to browse comfortably.
