good list but yall sleeping on the sweet rice bakery, the osmanthus cake is fine but the red bean pastries are the real move, get there before 9am or theyre gone. also if ur doing hotpot, skip chongqing and try the smaller place on wenhua street, its called lao zhang hotpot, no english sign but its got a red lantern out front, set meal for two is 100 yuan and the broth is less oily, more numbing.
for a late lunch after the market, theres a wonton shop on bridge street, right next to old town dessert house, 12 yuan for a huge bowl and they make the wrappers by hand, u can see them rolling dough in the window. pair it with the tangyuan after, the sesame filling there is way better than the ones at the bakery tbh.
and if ur there on a weekday, the night market is quieter and the vendors will throw in extra skewers if u chat them up a bit, my buddy got two free lamb sticks at stall 3 just for asking about the chili sauce recipe. cash is king tho, one atm near the east lake entrance.

One thing that's missing is the breakfast congee spot on the old canal path, it's a tiny place with just four tables, no sign, but the century egg and pork congee is 10 yuan and they've got this pickled radish side that's perfect. They open at 6:30 and usually run out by 9.
Also for the hotpot, if you're going with a group of four or more, skip the set meals and just order a la carte at Chongqing. The
solid list, i live here and this checks out. one thing the guide doesn't mention is the breakfast rice rolls at the stall behind the post office on renmin avenue, they're open 6am to 10am and the youtiao there is always fresh, 5 yuan for two. way better than the ones at the morning market if u ask me.
for the beer garden, the grilled fish is good but if u go on a tuesday theres a guy who sets up a tiny bbq cart by the north entrance, he does these grilled eggplants with a spicy garlic sauce, 10 yuan each, and theyre the best thing ive eaten in this town. he disappears by 9pm so get there early.
also if u want to skip the touristy stuff, theres a muslim noodle place on wenhua street, no sign, just a green awning, they do a lamb and radish noodle soup for 15 yuan that'll change ur life. open till 4pm. cash only, and they close early if they sell out.

solid plan overall, i've done this route a few times and it works. one thing u should know is the old bakery on zhongshan road, the one across from the market, they run out of the sesame pastries by noon most days. get there before 10 if u want the fresh ones, otherwise u're stuck with the plain ones which are still good but not the same.
for the west lake cultural district on day three, skip the main stage area and walk toward the back streets, there's a small courtyard with a guy who plays the erhu and sells his own tea, way more chill than the crowded performances. also the craft beer there is overpriced at the stalls near the entrance, walk two blocks in and u'll find a tiny bar called the red lantern that does 15 yuan pints, locals only basically.
yeah the lotus lake paddleboats are worth it but go right when they open at 7, by 9 the lines get long and the water gets choppy from all the rentals. also the bamboo forest path has a hidden side trail about halfway through that leads to a small tea pavilion, most people miss it cause it's not marked, just look for the mossy stone steps on the left.
The itinerary's solid, but don't skip the morning at the Ancient Street if you can help it. I'd add that the City God Temple has a small incense ritual area in the back courtyard that most tourists walk right past, and the caretaker there will let you ring the bell for a couple of yuan. For the Folk Museum, the courtyard garden is nice, but the real gem is the second floor's weaving demonstration, they run it at 14:30 and 15:30, so time your visit around that.
One thing the guide doesn't mention is that the East River promenade gets packed with locals doing tai chi and fishing around 18:30, so if you want a quieter view, go a bit earlier or push dinner back. Also, the seafood stalls on the river are great, but the ones closest to the old bridge charge about 15 percent more than the ones further south, so walk an extra five minutes and save some cash.
For the South Gate Bazaar, bring small bills, a lot of the stallholders won't break a 100 yuan note early in the day. And if you're there on a Sunday, the textile shops start packing up by 16:00, not 18:00 as the guide says, so hit those first if you're after handwoven stuff.
