yeah the guide covers the basics well. if you're into tea at all theres a tiny shop on the second floor of the antique market on Pingyang street, no sign in english, just a guy with a wooden counter. he'll let you try his aged pu'er for free if you buy a small cake for like 30 yuan, way cheaper than the tourist tea houses near yaomiao temple
also the bus to hukou from the west station is fine but the return bus stops running at 4pm, i missed it once and had to split a taxi with three strangers for 120 yuan each. worth checking the schedule at the ticket window before you head out so you know the last one back
the free city wall section near gulou square is nice but the best spot is actually the bit behind the old hospital on jiefang road, its less maintained but you can climb up and see the whole old city layout for free, just watch the loose bricks near the top
ngl this guide is solid, the Hukou pricing is a real trap for tourists. one thing i'd add is that the bus from Linfen West Station to Hukou leaves every hour on the hour but fills up fast on weekends, so get there 20 mins early or you're standing the whole way. also the 1 km walk to the waterfall is fine but bring a mask if it's windy, the dust from the loess plateau can get pretty thick near the river
for eating, the knife-cut noodles on Hongwei Road are good but the real move is the lamb skewer place just off Gulou North Street, they do 10 skewers for 15 yuan and the guy running it has been there since like 2010. the meat's a bit greasy but that's part of the charm
the Binhe Park tip is legit, go at sunset when the lights on the bridge come on, it's a nice view of the Fen River without spending a thing

The one in the Wanda Plaza on Gulou Street has a stall that does yangrou paomo, the lamb and bread stew, for 18 yuan with a side of pickled garlic. It's not as famous as Xi'an's version but it's hearty and fills you up for hours after walking around the city wall.
For the Linfen Museum, bring your passport if you don't have a Chinese ID, they'll accept that too. I went on a Tuesday morning and had the whole second floor exhibition on ancient pottery to myself, which was a nice break from the crowds.

the quiet residential area near Yaodu Park is underrated honestly. i stayed at the Jinjiang Inn for a week last spring and it was so nice to wake up and walk through the park before the heat hit, there's a little tea stand by the lake that opens at 7am. downside is the bus route 5 can be crowded during rush hour but it's still only 20 minutes to the center. if you're with kids the playground equipment is new and there's a decent baozi place on Huayuan Street just outside the south gate
honestly the city center recommendation is solid but i'd add that staying near Pingyang Square means you're also right next to the night market on Guangxuan Street - it starts around 6pm and the lamb skewers at the third stall from the north end are legit the best in town, 2 yuan each. the Marriott is fine but if u want something cheaper with character try the Linfen Old Town Inn on Cangmen Lane, rooms from 280 and the owner makes a mean noodle soup for breakfast
one thing the guide doesn't mention is the east side near the Linfen East Railway Station is actually super convenient for getting up to the Hukou Waterfall if you're planning a day trip. there's a direct bus from the station at 7am for 40 yuan that drops you right at the entrance. the Coffee Lab they mentioned has decent pour-over but their wifi cuts out around 2pm when the afternoon crowd hits, the co-working space on the second floor of the Linfen International Apartment building is more reliable for actual work. also the development zone feels a bit dead on weekends, most of the restaurants there close by 9pm so stock up on snacks if you're staying late
