πŸ›οΈ Start at White Pagoda
The iconic White Pagoda (Baita) in the city center is a must-see. This 70-meter-tall Liao dynasty pagoda is beautifully lit at night. Admission is free, and the surrounding park is perfect for a morning stroll.

🏯 Explore Guangyou Temple
Located at 60 Zhonghua Street, Guangyou Temple is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Liaoning. The complex features ancient halls and a peaceful courtyard. Entry costs 20 CNY, and it's open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

🏞️ Hike Longfeng Mountain
Just 15 km east of the city, Longfeng Mountain offers scenic hiking trails with views of the Taizi River. The park is open year-round, and entry is 30 CNY. Best visited in spring or autumn for comfortable temperatures.

πŸ›οΈ Visit Liaoyang Museum
Housed in a former Confucian temple at 2 Xinhuo Road, the museum showcases local history from the Paleolithic era to the Qing dynasty. Admission is free, and it's closed on Mondays. Allow about 1.5 hours to see the exhibits.

🍜 Taste Local Noodles
Liaoyang is known for its hand-pulled noodles (lamian). Head to Laobian Noodle House at 88 Minzhu Road for a bowl of beef noodle soup for around 15 CNY. The shop is busy at lunch, so arrive before 11:30 AM.

🚌 Getting Around
City buses cost 1-2 CNY and cover most attractions. Taxis start at 8 CNY for the first 3 km. For a more local experience, rent a bicycle from one of the public bike stations near the train station.

πŸŒƒ Evening at Taizi River
The riverside promenade along Taizi River comes alive after sunset with lights and street performers. Take a leisurely walk from the Dongfeng Road bridge to the Xinhua Road bridge. There are several tea houses where you can relax with a cup of jasmine tea.

πŸ›οΈ Shop at Baita Market
For souvenirs and local snacks, visit the Baita Night Market near the pagoda. It opens around 5:00 PM and sells everything from dried fruits to handmade crafts. Bargaining is expected, so start at half the asking price.

ngl the guangyou temple is worth more than just the main hall, theres a small pagoda in the back courtyard that most people miss, its from the yuan dynasty and has these faded but still visible carvings of buddhist figures around the base. also theres a monk there who sells handmade incense for 5 yuan a bundle, smells way better than the synthetic stuff you find in shops

if you're into older stuff the confucian temple building that houses the museum has some original ming dynasty roof tiles that survived the cultural revolution, you can see them from the back garden if you walk around the main building. the staff usually dont mind if you take photos of the exterior

for the night market i'd recommend the grilled tofu skewers from the auntie with the red cart near the east entrance, shes been there for like 20 years and her sauce is this secret family recipe thats a bit spicy and a bit sweet. 2 yuan per skewer and she doesnt speak mandarin well so just point and hold up fingers

The museum is worth more than the 1.5 hours they suggest, I spent almost three in there and still felt rushed through the Qing dynasty section. The Buddhist sculpture hall on the second floor has some really striking Liao dynasty statues that most people walk right past.

If you go on a Saturday morning, there's a small antique market that sets up on the street outside the museum entrance. Nothing high end, but you can find old coins and Cultural Revolution memorabilia for a few yuan. Just don't buy anything that looks too old, most of it is reproduced.

For the hike at Longfeng Mountain, take the east trail up and the west trail down. The east side is steeper but has better views of the river valley, and the west side is more shaded for the descent. The ticket office only takes cash, something I learned the hard way.

I have to say the White Pagoda park in early morning is something else. I went around 6 AM and it was just a few people practicing tai chi and this one guy playing erhu under the pagoda. The light coming through the morning haze made everything look soft and old, like stepping back a century.

For the museum, the real hidden gem is the stele forest in the back courtyard. There are about 30 stone tablets from different dynasties, some with really clear calligraphy. I spent a good 45 minutes just reading the ones I could make out. Bring mosquito repellent if you go in summer, the garden attracts them.

The bus system is fine but the 23 bus that runs from the train station to Longfeng Mountain only comes every 40 minutes. I waited almost an hour before figuring out the schedule. A taxi is only about 25 yuan and saves you the headache.

if you're into photography, hit longding mountain around 4pm instead of the afternoon slot. the light hits the temple ruins just right and you get the city skyline in the background without the midday haze. also, the bus drivers on route 3 can be a bit aggressive so hold onto something if you're standing.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

yo this is a solid itinerary, i live here and id tweak one thing. day 3's tanghe hot springs are nice but honestly the bus there is way cheaper than a taxi, route 12 goes past the east gate for 2 yuan and drops u a 10 min walk away. also the white pagoda park is free but if u go at like 6am u can catch the old guys doing tai chi and singing opera, its a vibe u wont see later

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

solid plan, i've done a similar route a few times. one thing that's worth slotting in day 1 is the small folk art museum tucked behind the white pagoda, it's free and has some cool paper-cutting and shadow puppet displays that most tourists miss. also for day 2 dinner, instead of haidilao which is fine but generic, try the lamb skewers at a place called xinjiang dapanji on minzhu road, it's about 60 yuan a person and the cumin flavor is way better than anything on xinhua street. the bus to the hot springs is definitely the move, route 12 runs every 15 mins and saves you 40 bucks
