Solid guide, I've been eating at that unmarked stall on Dongchangfu Old Street for years and it's consistent. One thing I don't see mentioned is the fried dough stick vendor who sets up near the south gate of Guangyue Tower around 7 AM. He does a version stuffed with minced pork and scallions that's way better than the plain ones at the morning stall near the tower itself.

For the lamb soup spot near People's Square, I prefer the one with the blue awning too. Their version with vermicelli and a splash of vinegar is my go-to after work, and they'll throw in extra flatbread if you ask. The numbered stalls by the square are fine for grilled seafood but the guy under the big willow tree by the fountain does better lamb skewers with a cumin rub that's spicier than most.

ngl this guide is really well put together, i've been going to that no. 38 stall for years and it never misses. one thing nobody's mentioned yet is the cold noodles with sesame sauce from the lady with the cart near the east gate of dongchangfu old street around 6 pm, she uses a darker roasted sesame paste that's way nuttier than the usual stuff. it's like 8 yuan a bowl and she'll add extra cucumber if u ask nice

also if u're into the braised chicken at laocheng yipin, the lunch special from 11 to 1 includes a free bowl of millet congee that pairs perfect with the soy sauce flavor. the rooftop at moonlight restaurant is overrated imo, the food's decent but the view is mostly parking lots and the service can be slow when it's busy

This guide is spot on about the donkey meat sandwich at stall No. 38. I usually go on weekdays around 5:30 and the line is shorter than on weekends. One thing I always grab while I'm there is the fried dough twist they sell two stalls down, it's 2 yuan and perfect for dipping into the leftover sauce from the sandwich.

For the braised chicken at Laocheng Yipin, I'd recommend going with a group of three or four so you can also try the stir-fried lotus root with chili. It's a simple dish but they do it well, crunchy and just enough heat. The lunch special with the millet congee is a good deal but the congee runs out fast if you get there after 12:30.

honestly this is a really well put together plan, you clearly know the pace of the city. one thing id add is that the braised chicken noodles on beiguan street are good but if you want the real deal for breakfast, hit the little spot on yucai lane just off dongchang west road around 7am. they do a sesame pancake sandwich with braised pork for like 6 kuai and the line is all locals, no tourists at all. i stumbled on it my second morning and it beat the noodles for me.

also for the linqing day trip, dont just stick to the museum and tower. walk the canal path north for about 20 minutes past the sheli tower, theres a stretch where the old stone locks are still intact and you can see the original granite work from the ming dynasty. no signs or anything, just the canal and some old willow trees. i sat there for an hour watching a barge go through, felt like stepping back in time. just make sure you catch that 5pm bus, theres not a ton of options after that.

solid plan, covers the essentials well. one thing i'd tweak is the bike rental, the south gate stall is fine but if you walk around to the east side of the lake near the wenchang bridge there's a guy who rents electric scooters for 30 rmb an hour, way less effort for the full 6k loop and you can cover it in half the time. just ask for "dian dong che" and he'll sort you out, no deposit needed.

for the night market on east street, skip the first few skewer stalls closest to the gate, they're tourist traps with smaller portions. walk about 100 meters in to the third row where an old lady runs a cart with iron plate noodles, she fries them with bean sprouts and a bit of chili, 8 rmb a plate and it's the best thing there after 8pm. the line moves slow but it's worth it.

the linqing day trip is a good call but the k101 bus can get packed on weekends, try to catch the 7:30am departure from liaocheng bus station to avoid standing the whole way. i missed that once and ended up squeezed between two farmers with live chickens, memorable but not ideal for a day trip

The itinerary covers the main spots well, but I'd suggest adjusting your Day 3 morning in Linqing. Instead of heading straight to the museum, walk east from the bus station about 10 minutes to the old market street on Gongye Road. There's a family-run stall there that's been making sesame flatbreads since the 1980s, and they sell them hot from the clay oven for 2 RMB each. Grab a couple and eat them while you walk to the canal, it's a better start than any sit-down breakfast.

For the Dongchang Lake bike loop, you can save some money by walking to the rental shop on the north side of the lake near the Water Curtain Cave. It's a bit further from the main south gate cluster, but they charge 15 RMB per hour instead of 20 and the bikes are newer. Just bring small bills, they rarely have change for anything larger than 50.
