For a proper local meal, skip the tourist spots and try the dumpling house on Dongfeng Road, it's about 8 yuan for a plate of pork and cabbage jiaozi.
Theres a hot spring resort about 40 minutes north of Jixi called Beidahuang Hot Spring that most tourists overlook. It's not fancy but the outdoor pools are set right in the forest and cost 80 yuan per person. I went on a weekday in November and had a whole sulfur pool to myself while snow fell around the edges. Bring your own towel and flip-flops since the rentals are a bit rough.
ngl the russian quarter is probably my favorite spot in jixi, mostly because its quiet compared to the rest of the city. theres a tiny bakery on a side street off heping that sells these dense black bread loaves for like 6 yuan, perfect with some of the smoked fish from xingkai. also if you go in winter theres a guy who sets up a mulled wine cart near the church on weekends, not authentic russian but it hits the spot when its -20 out

This is a solid plan, especially for a first visit. I'd suggest swapping the order of your Day 3 morning a bit. The Coal Mine Museum is interesting but small, you can really see it all in about 45 minutes. If you get there right when it opens at 9, you'll have plenty of time to walk over to the Folk Custom Village before the noon lunch rush hits.
For the hot pot on your last night, there's a place called Laojie Hotpot on Xinhua Road that's been there for over a decade. The broth is a bit spicier than most places in town, which I prefer, and they make their own sesame sauce. It'll run you closer to 60-70 RMB a person but the quality is worth it.
One thing the guide doesn't mention is that the bus to Xingkai Lake from the city center can be crowded on summer weekends. If you're going on a Saturday, I'd take a taxi or you'll be standing the whole hour ride. It's about 50 RMB each way.
yeah this is a good plan, i'd just say that for xingkai lake it's way better to go in the morning if you can, like 8am, because the light on the water is incredible and there's way fewer people. the afternoon can get windy and crowded especially on weekends

I'd add that if you're visiting in late spring or early autumn, the walk along the Muling River promenade is much better in the late afternoon than at 7 PM, since the sun sets around 5:30 in April and the lighting is more dramatic. The evening lights are fine but the real charm is the golden hour reflection on the water.
For the Hailin Forest Park hike, the main trail is well-marked but there's a lesser-known side path about halfway up that leads to a smaller, quieter waterfall. It adds about 30 minutes to your hike and most tourists miss it. Ask a park attendant for "the second waterfall" and they'll point you to it.
The Dongbei Folk Custom Village is a bit touristy but worth it for the architecture. The performances are mostly aimed at tour groups, so if you go around 11:30 you'll catch the noon show without a crowd. The ginseng at Jixi Trade City is overpriced compared to smaller shops on Heping Street, where a decent root runs about 30 RMB less.
