that guide is solid but they left out the hot springs at Tieshan district. its about 20 mins from downtown by bus route 6 and costs 60 CNY for entry. the outdoor pools are nice in winter when the air is cold but the water is steaming, feels way better than the indoor ones
the museum tip about free admission is correct but bring your actual ID not a photo. theyre strict about it and i saw a couple turned away last month. also the mining exhibit on the second floor is the best part, theres a model of an old mine shaft you can walk through
if youre here on a weekend check if the night market on Wuhan Road is running. its not every night but when it is the grilled eggplant with garlic sauce is unbeatable. stalls open around 6pm and the whole street smells like charcoal and chili
the guide's right about the museum being good but i think the real hidden gem is the old mining railway track that runs along the edge of town near the industrial district. you can walk it for like 3 km and theres this abandoned train car about halfway that makes for a cool photo spot. just go early before the sun gets too hot
also for the fish noodle soup i'd say the best bowl is actually at the morning market near the east gate of cihu lake. its a tiny cart with a green umbrella and the lady uses fresh fish from the lake that morning. costs 10 CNY but the portion is bigger than the stalls on shengli road

yeah the guide covers the basics well but imo the best thing in huangshi is just wandering the old streets around Shengli Road at night. theres this little dumpling place on a side alley called something like "old wang's" that only does pork and chive dumplings and theyre like 6 CNY for a plate of 12. no sign in english just a red lantern out front
also the bus system tip is right but route 2 goes right past the museum and the lake so its pretty handy if you're trying to hit both in one day. just tap your phone if you have alipay it saves messing with coins
the hot springs in tieshan are great but honestly i prefer the ones near the base of mount dongfang. smaller and quieter but only open in winter. same price though so pick whichever fits your schedule

that bus route 6 tip is clutch, the timing is brutal if you miss it. also if you're at the cihu lake south entrance and need a bike, walk about 5 mins north to the main road, there's a bigger rack there with way more bikes and less walking to park
