honestly the breakfast spots section is pretty accurate but i'd skip morning joy eatery on weekends, gets packed with families and the wait for rice rolls can be 20 minutes. li's dumpling house is the move for a quick bite, grab a dozen and eat them walking down renmin west, they hold up way better than the rice rolls if you're on the go.
one thing nobody mentioned is the grilled fish at the night market, look for the stall with the yellow awning near the back corner. they char it over coals with chili and garlic, 15 yuan a fish, and it's way more flavorful than the stuff at riverside bbq. i go there every time i'm back in town.

That's a solid guide. One thing I'd add is that the bamboo rice carts near the bus station are a morning thing, usually gone by 1 PM. If you're around Jiefang Road in the late afternoon, there's a couple of ladies selling steamed rice cakes with brown sugar syrup for 3 yuan each, they're soft and not too sweet. Most tourists walk right past them because they don't have a big sign or anything, just a little steamer on a stool.

The area around the bus station has a few second-floor bars that tourists usually miss. I like the one called 88 Pub on Jianshe Road, it's a small spot with decent craft beer and a pool table, not fancy but the crowd is friendly. The owner sometimes brings out his guitar around 11pm and people just sing along.
honestly the best nights out in hechi are just random street corner gatherings. there's a stretch near the south gate of the old town where people set up portable tables and play cards while drinking baijiu. nobody plans it, you just show up and someone will hand u a cup
