honestly the guide nails the basics, but one thing it misses is renting an e-bike for a day. around 50 to 80 yuan gets u one for 24 hours, and the coastal road from holiday beach up to the west coast is way more fun on two wheels than in a taxi. just make sure u have the didi app as backup in case it rains, which it does out of nowhere sometimes even in the dry season.

for the museum, don't just do the main halls, the temporary exhibits on the second floor are often better curated and less crowded. and if u're into street food, skip the touristy stalls on qilou old street and walk two blocks north to the small lanes behind the post office, the fried squid and 抱罗粉 (bao luo fen) there are cheaper and way more local. the guide's timing advice is solid, november to march really is the sweet spot, i've been in july once and it was like walking through a steam bath.
