Which parts of town are fine to walk through at that hour and which should I avoid, especially around the old tin mining district? Any tips on getting from the station to a hotel safely that late would help too.

the 10pm arrival is the real issue, not the walking. last buses from the train station wind down around then, so sort a ride before u get off. if ur hotel is up in the hot spring cluster, ask them to send a car and confirm the price in writing, legit ones do this for late guests. old mining streets are fine by day but quiet & poorly lit at night, so no detours there

ask them to text the plate number too

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

yeah and screenshot the chat, some drivers "forget" the agreed fare once ur bags are in teh trunk.

WeChat Pay records beat screenshots.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Agreed, and old mining streets lack lighting entirely on side lanes.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Old mining streets, even the main drag, no streetlights past 9

Stick to the Jianshe Road area near the hot spring hotels; the old tin district gets patchy after dark, so grab a taxi from Gejiu station rather than walking.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

A taxi booked through the hotel is usually safer than hailing one outside the station at that hour.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

fair point, though I'd say sort your ride before you even board, station taxi touts get pushy that late.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Jianshe Road works because it's flat and lit, but tell the hotel your train time so they hold a driver past 10pm.

Working from Gejiu cafes in 2026: internet and hours

What's the internet situation like at places such as Tiệm caffe MidWay, and are cafes generally open late enough to overlap with European or US hours? Also curious how long most remote workers tend to stay in the city.

Mobile hotspot as backup, honestly.

arrow_drop_up 6 arrow_drop_down

yeah hotspot saved me more than once, but check the carrier first. china unicom holds up better than the others in the older streets, and grab a sim at the airport rather than waiting.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Sim cards from the little shops near the market work fine too, ask your hotel which carrier is strongest.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

backup yes but data caps bite if u stream meetings all day. grab a 4g router at the electronics stalls on Renmin Lu, they run cheaper than hotel wifi for a month

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Carrier signal drops up on the hillside streets too.

US hours means roughly 9pm to 5am there.

Coworking desks near the train station, ask there.
