Any recommendations for hot spring hotels that are actually worth the price? Also curious if the mineral water is really as good as people say.

stayed near jiajie town last spring, the springs there are legit sulfur, skin felt soft for days. book ahead for 2026 since rooms go fast during holidays. water quality is real, not just hype

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

good to know about the sulfur, was wondering if it's teh real deal or just marketing. did u try any of the hotel pools in town or just the public ones near Jiajie? trying to figure out which places are worth the price for 2026.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

honestly the tin-miner bathhouses are the real deal, hotel pools water is just piped in and reheated

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Hotel pools mostly pull from the same aquifer so the mineral content is real, just cooled and reheated. For 2026 I'd skip the big chain places and look at smaller guesthouses up the hill road; rates were around 200 to 300 a night last I checked.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Did you make it to the old tin miners' bathhouses closer to the lake, or just the hotel pools?

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Only did the hotel pools myself, but a local told me the old bathhouses by the lake are mostly shut now, so don't bank on them.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

just the hotel pools, tin miner ones were closed when i went

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

which spot near jiajie did u book, the ones right by the lake tend to run pricier than the hillside ones

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Second this, book by October not spring.

sulfur smell at the source is how u know its real

Hot spring hotels in Gejiu: safe late-night areas 2026

Which parts of town are fine to walk through at that hour and which should I avoid, especially around the old tin mining district? Any tips on getting from the station to a hotel safely that late would help too.
arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

the 10pm arrival is the real issue, not the walking. last buses from the train station wind down around then, so sort a ride before u get off. if ur hotel is up in the hot spring cluster, ask them to send a car and confirm the price in writing, legit ones do this for late guests. old mining streets are fine by day but quiet & poorly lit at night, so no detours there

arrow_drop_up 23 arrow_drop_down

ask them to text the plate number too

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

yeah and screenshot the chat, some drivers "forget" the agreed fare once ur bags are in teh trunk.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

WeChat Pay records beat screenshots.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Agreed, and old mining streets lack lighting entirely on side lanes.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Old mining streets, even the main drag, no streetlights past 9

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Stick to the Jianshe Road area near the hot spring hotels; the old tin district gets patchy after dark, so grab a taxi from Gejiu station rather than walking.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

A taxi booked through the hotel is usually safer than hailing one outside the station at that hour.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

fair point, though I'd say sort your ride before you even board, station taxi touts get pushy that late.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Jianshe Road works because it's flat and lit, but tell the hotel your train time so they hold a driver past 10pm.
