🏙️ Jinli & Kuanzhai Alleys
For first-time visitors who want to be in the heart of historic Chengdu, the area around Jinli Ancient Street and Kuanzhai Alleys is ideal. You'll find boutique hotels like The Temple House (28 Jinli) and hostels starting at 150 CNY per night. This zone is pedestrian-friendly but can be crowded on weekends.

🌆 Chunxi Road & Taikoo Li
This is Chengdu's modern commercial core, perfect for shoppers and nightlife lovers. Mid-range hotels like the Atour Hotel (No. 8 Daci Temple Road) average 400-600 CNY per night. The area buzzes until late, with metro Line 2 connecting you to the rest of the city.

🐼 Near Chengdu Research Base
If pandas are your priority, stay near the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base in the northern suburb. Hotels like the Panda Inn (1375 Beihu Road) offer shuttle services and rates from 300 CNY. The area is quieter and family-friendly, but you'll need a taxi or bus (Line 198) to reach downtown.

💻 Hi-Tech Zone & South
Digital nomads and business travelers will appreciate the Hi-Tech Zone (Gaoxin District), home to co-working spaces and modern apartments. Serviced apartments like the Somerset (288 Tianfu Avenue) cost around 500-800 CNY per night. Metro Line 1 runs through the area, and there are plenty of cafes and international restaurants.

🌳 Huanhuaxi Park Area
For a peaceful, green escape within the city, the neighborhoods around Huanhuaxi Park and Du Fu Thatched Cottage are excellent. Guesthouses like the Lazybones Hostel (18 Qingyang Road) start at 100 CNY for a dorm. This area is ideal for families and couples who prefer quiet evenings and morning walks along the Jin River.

🍜 Yulin & South of City Center
Food lovers should head to Yulin, a residential district famous for its spicy hotpot and street food. Budget hotels like the 7 Days Inn (Yulin South Road) are around 200 CNY per night. The area has a local vibe, with fewer tourists and authentic eateries open until midnight.

🚇 Getting Around & Tips
Chengdu's metro system (Lines 1-7) covers most tourist areas, with fares from 2-10 CNY. For airport access, Line 10 connects Shuangliu Airport to the city center in 30 minutes. Book accommodations near metro stations to save time, especially during peak season (April-October).

solid breakdown honestly. one thing the guide skims over is how loud some of these areas get at night. i stayed near chunxi road once and the street performers and mall speakers went till like 11pm, not ideal if u want sleep. the huanhuaxi area is way quieter and you can grab a bike to the du fu cottage in like 5 minutes, plus the riverside path is perfect for a morning run. also for food heads, yulin is great but the hotpot places on yulin west street have shorter lines than the ones on yulin south road, just a heads up.

This is a solid guide. I would add that the area around the Sichuan University Wangjiang campus is worth considering too. It's a bit south of the city center, close to the river, and has a really relaxed tree-lined vibe with tons of cheap food stalls and tea houses that students use. You can get a decent double room in a small hotel there for around 250 a night, and it's a short bike ride to the Jiuyanqiao bar street if you want nightlife without the noise right outside your window.

good guide. one thing i'd mention is that the area around the sichuan opera theater at shufeng yayun is worth looking at for accommodation. there's a bunch of cheap hotels on shuhan road just east of there, like 150-200 a night for a basic room, and you're right next to the opera house plus a 10 minute walk to kuanzhai. the street food carts on shuhan road after dark are fantastic too, especially the cold noodles at the corner stall near the post office

Qingchengshan splits into two parts and most people don't realize this. Front mountain (Qian Shan) is the taoist temples and stone steps, maybe 3 hrs up, cable car if you're lazy. Back mountain (Hou Shan) is the actual hike with waterfalls, way less crowded, but its a full day and you need to start early, like 7am from Xinnanmen. If you only have one day trip in you, do Hou Shan. The front is nice but feels a bit like a tourist conveyor belt on weekends.

Leshan is the easy one, bus from Xinnanmen takes about 2.5 hrs and you're at the Buddha by lunch. Book the boat option if the queue for the stair descent is over 2 hrs, you still see the whole thing from the water and save half a day. Qingchengshan is a different vibe, more of a hike so depends if u want scenery or the big Buddha photo. I'd do Leshan first since its lower effort and pairs well with a stop in Huanglongxi old town on the way back.

idk just take the train to chongqing instead, only 1.5 hrs
