Whitebox gallery 798 district worth a visit in 2026?
798's better spent wandering the alleys & grabbing coffee at Voyage, entry to the district itself costs nothing
Dashilar for hutongs instead, 798's a trek out east
Fair point on the free entry, though the good shows inside the paid spaces are where the money goes. I'd add that the west side near the old factories is quieter on weekday mornings, and the 751 end is worth the extra ten minutes' walk.
voyage is solid but the little spots up on the 4th floor of the old electronics plant are cheaper & quieter on weekends
Entry free, sure, but most of the ticketed halls run 60 to 120 yuan now.
yeah the 60 to 120 range is right, though UCCA's big shows push past 150 on weekends and the smaller halls still run 30 or 40.
tbh the alleys are free but the coffee adds up fast. just wander with a cheap jianbing instead, u wont miss much.
the district is free but most halls inside charge, so budget 60 to 120 yuan if u actually want to see art
Whitebox closed, try UCCA instead.
check the 798 schedule first, ucca rotates shows
best wine bars in Beijing near Vinotheque 2026
Migas on Gongti, Thursdays before 8.
The upstairs pours are fine but the real draw nearby is the little spot on Sanlitun Beilu, about eight minutes on foot. Ask for the Ningxia cabernet by the glass, it's the one local bottle they pour generously.
second this, try the xinjiang marselan too
Which spot do you mean exactly? There are a couple on that stretch and I'd rather not guess. If it's the one with the small terrace, their Helan Mountain pour is the better value than the cabernet.
Bit of a walk though, closer to ten minutes once you factor in the crossing, and they pour the Marselan more freely than the cab these days.
Vinotheque's own by-the-glass Chinese list, upstairs.
go before 7, the upstairs fills fast
Friday and Saturday it's more like 6:30.
their glass pours skew white though, ask what's open from Shandong before u commit
Upstairs closes at 10 sharp, get there by 9.
