Best time to visit Beijing wildlife reserve in 2026?
April is your window for the Milu deer rut and migrants passing through, though the reserve at Nanhaizi gets crowded on weekends. Book online a few days out, the daily cap is strict. Bring binoculars, the deer stay far from the paths.
weekday mornings before 8, gates open at 7
early may for the chicks, songbird banding station opens
deer are actually at the deer park section, not the main wetland
Rut's actually late July into August, not spring
Booking a few days out won't cut it in peak season, slots often vanish a week ahead, so grab them the moment they drop.
Late september into october is underrated, the reedbeds turn gold and raptors start moving through. Fewer crowds than spring too. Grab tickets on the official WeChat about a week ahead, they do sell out around National Day.
honestly the raptor flight peaks after a cold front, so watch the weather and go the morning after, not a fixed date.
the wetland section near yizhuang is quieter for birds tbh. check the reserve wechat for dates before u plan anything
yizhuang hide needs a booking too, not just the gate
Central Mall Beijing: what's worth buying in 2026?
basement food court still beats the upper floor restaurants on price, a bowl of noodles runs about 28 kuai vs 45 upstairs. quality dipped a bit since the renovation though. if u want the real deal walk 10 min to the hutong spots off chaoyangmenwai, cheaper & better tbh
Fair point on the hutong spots, though Chaoyangmenwai is more like 15 minutes on foot, not 10. Quality did slip after the renovation, but the dumpling stall in the corner is still solid for the price.
Corner stall's cash only now, ran out of change last week
the shengjian bao place two alleys past the embassy gate is the one worth the walk, skip the noodle shops on the main drag
their scallion oil version, go before noon
Yeah 28 kuai checks out, go before 11:30 though
11:15 on fridays, office crowd hits at 11:45
Jia Chang Mian on the second alley, cash only.
Prices upstairs slipped past 45 since spring, so the gap's wider now, but the stalls past the chaoyangmenwai embassy row are still cheaper and better.
10 min is optimistic, more like 15 with the lights
