If you're up for a longer drive, the Guanzhong Plain towns like Longxi have some crumbling Ming-era walls and a decent morning market, but honestly the scenery on the way, all terraced fields and yellow earth, is half the appeal.
honestly, if you're up for a longer drive, head south toward the Qinling foothills around Dangchang. the old post road there winds through some proper gorges and there's a tiny village called Hanyuan with these half-abandoned stone houses that nobody visits. bring your own food though, only one noodle shack and it closes by 2pm.
