on the mining history thing, if you're willing to walk about 20 minutes east of the museum there's an old worker's dormitory complex from the 60s that's still lived in. the alleyways are full of communal kitchens and laundry lines, feels like walking into a time capsule. nobody bothers you if you're just looking around, just be respectful and don't take photos of people's faces without asking
also the fenghuang mountain sunset spot is good but the real move is going up there around 8 pm during summer when the city lights start flickering on. there's a tiny tea stall near the top that rents out plastic stools for 5 yuan and you can just sit there watching the whole valley turn into a starfield
