🏰 Old Sainte-Rose Charm
Start your visit in Old Sainte-Rose, a historic village along the Mille-Îles River with 19th-century houses and the serene Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles. The park offers kayak and paddleboard rentals from late May to early October, typically around $20 per hour, and guided eco-tours that showcase the river's biodiversity. Don't miss the Sunday public market at Place du Village (open 9 am to 2 pm) for local produce and crafts.

🌳 Riverside Green Spaces
Laval's network of parks is perfect for outdoor lovers. Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles is the main hub, but also check out Parc Bernard-Landry (4900 Boulevard Saint-Martin) for its splash pad and cycling paths. For a quieter escape, Parc du Bois-de-l'Île-Bizard offers wooded trails and birdwatching, open daily from sunrise to sunset, free entry.

🎭 Cultural Hotspots
The Salle André-Mathieu (475 Boulevard de l'Avenir) hosts year-round performances, from comedy nights to symphony concerts, with tickets often starting at $25. Art enthusiasts should visit the Musée Armand-Frappier (531 Boulevard des Prairies) to learn about the scientist behind the polio vaccine, open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm, admission $10. In summer, the outdoor Festi-Ouest festival in Chomedey brings free music and food trucks.

🛍️ Shopping and Markets
Centropolis (2300 Boulevard Daniel-Johnson) is the go-to for brand-name shopping and entertainment, including a cinema and indoor games. For a more local experience, head to the Marché 440 (3535 Boulevard Saint-Martin Ouest), a year-round indoor market with butchers, bakeries, and a food court. On weekends, the outdoor flea market at Place Bell (1950 Rue Claude-Gagné) offers vintage finds and street food from 8 am to 3 pm.

🍽️ Local Food Scene
Laval's dining scene reflects its multicultural mix. Try the Portuguese rotisserie chicken at Cantine Emilia (1025 Boulevard Curé-Labelle) for around $15 a plate, or the authentic Vietnamese pho at Pho Laval (3455 Boulevard Saint-Martin Ouest). For a sweet treat, the artisanal ice cream at Crèmerie du Parc (1 Place du Village) is a summer favorite, open daily from 11 am to 10 pm.

🚇 Getting Around
Laval is well connected to Montreal via the orange line metro, with three stations: Cartier, De la Concorde, and Montmorency. A single fare costs $3.50, and a day pass is $10.50. The STL bus network covers the island, but renting a bike from one of the BIXI stations (available from April to November) is a fun way to explore the riverside paths.

🎉 Annual Events
Plan your trip around Laval's lively festivals. In June, the Fête nationale du Québec at Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles features free concerts and fireworks. August brings the Laval Beer Festival at Place Bell, with tastings from local breweries for about $30. Winter visitors can enjoy the Christmas market in Old Sainte-Rose, open weekends from late November to December 23.

🏒 Sports and Recreation
Place Bell (1950 Rue Claude-Gagné) is the home of the Laval Rocket hockey team, with tickets starting at $20. The complex also hosts concerts and events. For family fun, try the indoor climbing at Canyon Escalade (4855 Boulevard des Laurentides) or ice skating at the outdoor rink in Parc Saint-Martin (open December to March, free).

🗺️ Day 1: Old Sainte-Rose
Start your morning at 9:00 at the Sainte-Rose-de-Lima Church (219, boulevard Sainte-Rose), a landmark with a peaceful garden. Then walk 10 minutes to Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles (345, boulevard Sainte-Rose) for a 2-hour kayak rental (about $35) or a riverside stroll. Grab lunch at Café Saint-Rose (475, boulevard Sainte-Rose) around 12:30, where a hearty sandwich costs $12. In the afternoon, explore the historic houses along Boulevard Sainte-Rose and visit the small Musée de la Ville de Laval (same address) for local history (free entry, open 10:00-17:00).

🚌 Getting Around Laval
Laval's bus network (STL) is your main option; a single fare is $3.50, and a 24-hour pass costs $10.50. From Sainte-Rose to downtown Laval (metro Montmorency), bus 63 takes about 25 minutes. For day trips to the west side, allow 30-40 minutes by bus from the metro. Taxis and ride-shares are available but pricey; budget $20-30 for cross-island trips.

🍽️ Day 2: Downtown and Chomedey
Begin at 9:30 at the Cosmodôme (2150, autoroute des Laurentides) for a space museum visit (adult ticket $18, open 10:00-17:00). Take bus 42 to Chomedey (15 minutes) and have lunch at Restaurant Bombay Chomedey (1200, boulevard Curé-Labelle) for a $15 thali. In the afternoon, shop at Carrefour Laval (3003, boulevard Le Carrefour), then walk 10 minutes to the Centre de la nature (901, avenue du Parc) for a free botanical garden and petting zoo. Dinner at La Belle et La Bœuf (2000, boulevard Curé-Labelle) offers a hearty meal for about $25.

🏛️ Day 3: History and Culture
Start at 10:00 at the Musée Armand-Frappier (531, boulevard des Prairies) for a science and history exhibit (adult $10). Then take bus 27 to Vieux-Saint-Vincent (20 minutes) and explore the historic district, including the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Church (150, boulevard des Laurentides). Lunch at Pizzeria No. 900 (2800, boulevard des Laurentides) serves wood-fired pizzas for $14-18. In the afternoon, visit the Centre d'interprétation de l'eau (12, rue Hotte) to learn about the region's water history (free, open 13:00-17:00).

🌳 Outdoor Highlights
Laval is full of green spaces; the Bois de l'Équerre (555, rue de l'Équerre) has 5 km of walking trails and is free to enter. For a longer hike, Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles offers 8 km of paths and bike rentals from $15 per hour. In summer, the beach at Parc des Prairies (325, boulevard des Prairies) is a local favorite, open 10:00-18:00 with free admission. Bring a picnic to save money, as on-site food options are limited.

đź’° Budget Tips
Expect to spend around $60-80 per day on food and activities if you mix free parks with one paid attraction. The STL 24-hour pass ($10.50) is worth it if you take more than three bus rides. Many museums have free entry on the first Sunday of the month, including the Musée Armand-Frappier. For cheap eats, look for lunch specials in Chomedey, where many restaurants offer $10-12 combos.

🌙 Evening Spots
For a relaxed evening, head to the Sainte-Rose waterfront promenade (rue du Bord-de-l'Eau) for sunset views, free and open until 23:00. In downtown Laval, Bistro Le Coq (1600, boulevard Le Corbusier) serves craft beers and snacks from $8, open until midnight on weekends. If you want live music, check the schedule at Salle André-Mathieu (475, boulevard de la Concorde), where tickets range from $25 to $50. Note that buses run less frequently after 22:00, so plan your return trip accordingly.

nice work on this. fwiw the STL 24h pass works on the shared bikes too, saved me a ton last summer.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Solid plan, but double check the Centre de la nature hours before u go, I think the petting zoo closes earlier than the gardens.
