Is Bar e Lanchonete Praça da Sé a decent spot for a cheap beer and a bite, or should I walk a few blocks for something better? Any idea what a beer and a lanche run there in 2026?

Praça da Sé gets sketchy after dark, so grab your chopp and pastel at lunch and walk toward Rua Direita instead.

fair point, tho id add the cathedral square itself is fine by day, just keep your phone zipped and skip the guys selling gold chains.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

yeah the phone thing is real, they work the crowd right when the cathedral lets out. i'd add: keep your bag in front of you on the steps too, not just zipped pockets. mornings before 9 are way calmer if you want the square to yourself.

Pastel de feira stalls on Rua XV de Novembro are cheaper than the square spots and you eat standing, which keeps you moving.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Agree, and the cathedral closes the square off around 6

The cathedral end of the square is the worst of it, walk down toward the Rua Direita side and it calms down quick.

Any good cafes within walking distance for a proper espresso and a place to sit with a laptop? I'd rather avoid the chain spots if there's something local worth the detour.

Depends where Celularpluspro1 actually is, but if you're near Pinheiros try Coffee Lab on Rua Fradique Coutinho. Sit upstairs with a laptop, the espresso's solid and it's not a chain.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yeah good shout, but sit downstairs if u need an outlet, upstairs is mostly for talking

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Isso é Coffee Lab territory, but Issa on Rua Fradique Coutinho is quieter for laptop work and does a proper flat white
