The cafe's own espresso is fine but I'd walk ten minutes to a proper padaria for a pão de queijo and a better cup.

Padaria Real on Cardeal Arcoverde, go before 9.

idk the cafe itself but the area around it is worth wandering, maybe just follow the smell of coffee tbh

Second this, the queue outside is the giveaway.

Following the smell works better on Rua Harmonia than the main drag, where the chain spots drown it out.

Do people mostly meet through apps, or is it still common to strike up something at a bar in Vila Madalena or over coffee in Pinheiros? Curious what surprised outsiders most about the norms, like who asks whom out and how fast things tend to move.

Praça Benedito Calixto, Saturday feira.

yeah the feira works but go late morning, like 11ish, when people are done shopping and hanging around the food stalls. the chopp de vinil crowd there skews older and more coupled up than you'd expect tbh.

Fair point on the chopp de vinil crowd, that scene is definitely more settled couples than singles. If you want people actually mingling, the food stalls by 11 are better than the vinyl tables. Weekday evenings there are quieter but the bar crowd is more mixed.

Apps mostly, but Boteco Seu Justino on weekends still works.
