got quoted R$40 for a beer at a bar near consolacao, is that normal for sao paulo or am i getting tourist taxed? seems high but idk the going rate there got quoted R$40 for a beer at a bar near consolacao, is that normal for sao paulo or am i getting tourist taxed? seems high but idk the going rate there

Where exactly matters a lot. A R$40 beer on Avenida Paulista at a place with a view is normal, but tucked on a side street it's not. Also check if it's a 600ml garrafa, that changes the math.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

yeah the garrafa thing is key, a 600ml shared is way different from a single long neck at that price

Garrafa vs long neck is the whole ballgame.

R$40 is steep for Consolacao, honestly you'd pay closer to R$25-30 at a boteco a few blocks off the main drag.

Augusta side streets, happy hour before 8

Depends on the street, Rua da Consolacao itself runs higher.

idk the exact spot but praça near paulista usually has decent coffee. metro from pinheiros is easy enough, just check line 4

line 4's the yellow one, not green

Praça is just a square, coffee's on the side streets off it

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

yeah the side streets are where it's at, rua da consolação side has a couple of small padarias doing proper espresso. the square itself is mostly guys selling coconut water. grab a pão de queijo at the corner bakery on augusta
