🌳 Start at the Central Parks
Begin your visit at Praça Rui Barbosa, the city's main square, which is surrounded by historic buildings and a vibrant weekend market. Just a few blocks away, Parque da Represa offers a peaceful escape with a lake, jogging paths, and pedal boats for rent at around R$20 per hour. Both spots are free to enter and are busiest on Sunday mornings when locals come for fresh coconut water and pastries.

🎭 Explore Cultural Centers
The Teatro Municipal Paulo Moura hosts regular theater, dance, and music performances, with tickets often priced between R$20 and R$60. Check the schedule at the cultural center on Rua XV de Novembro, where free art exhibitions rotate monthly. For a deeper dive into local history, the Museu de Arte e História de Rio Preto (Rua Bernardino de Campos, 300) charges a symbolic R$5 entry and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm.

🍖 Taste the Local Barbecue
Sao Jose do Rio Preto is known for its churrasco, and a visit to a traditional steakhouse like Churrascaria do Gaúcho (Av. Alberto Andaló, 3500) is a must. Expect all-you-can-eat meat service for about R$70 per person, including sides and salad bar. For a lighter option, try the pastel at Pastelaria do Mercado (Mercado Municipal, Rua José Bonifácio, 120), where a crispy pastel costs around R$8 and is best enjoyed with a glass of fresh sugarcane juice.

🛍️ Shop at Local Markets
The Mercado Municipal is the heart of local commerce, selling everything from spices and cheeses to handicrafts. It opens Monday to Saturday from 7am to 6pm, and Saturday mornings are the liveliest. For something more modern, the Shopping Iguatemi Rio Preto (Av. Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira, 3000) houses international brands and a food court that stays open until 10pm.

🚌 Getting Around Town
The city's bus system is efficient and covers most attractions, with a single ride costing R$5.50. You can pay cash to the driver or use a rechargeable card available at terminals. Taxi and ride-hailing apps are also reliable, with a typical trip within the city center costing between R$15 and R$25. Renting a bike from one of the bike-share stations near Praça Rui Barbosa is a great way to explore at your own pace for R$10 per hour.

🌙 Evening Entertainment
As the sun sets, head to the bars along Rua General Glicério, where you'll find a mix of botecos and live music venues. Bar do Ceará (Rua General Glicério, 2500) is a local favorite for its cold beer and petiscos, with live samba on Fridays. For a more upscale evening, the rooftop bar at the Hotel Nacional (Rua Tiradentes, 1500) offers panoramic views and craft cocktails starting at R$25.

⚽ Sports and Recreation
Football fans can catch a game at the Estádio Benedito Teixeira (Av. Anísio Haddad, 1500), home to Rio Preto Esporte Clube, with tickets usually ranging from R$20 to R$50. The city also has several public sports courts and gyms, such as the Centro Esportivo Municipal (Rua das Palmeiras, 800), where you can join a pickup game of basketball or volleyball. For a relaxing day, the Sesc Rio Preto (Av. Francisco das Chagas Oliveira, 1000) offers a pool, gym, and cultural activities for a daily fee of R$10 for non-members.

🌿 Day Trips Nearby
If you have an extra day, consider a trip to the nearby town of Cedral, about 30 minutes by car, known for its artisanal cachaça distilleries. Another option is the Represa Municipal, a reservoir area with walking trails and picnic spots, located just 10 kilometers from the city center. Local tour agencies offer guided hikes and bike tours to these spots for around R$80 per person, including transport.

Worth adding the Observatório Astronômico at Unesp, open Wednesday nights for free telescope viewing, though you need to book ahead.

Nice work pulling all this together. One thing I'd add is the Bosque Municipal, quiet during the week and good for a shaded walk when the heat gets old. Also worth checking the agenda at Sesc for free concerts, they book decent regional acts.

Only visited once but the Sesc pool saved us on a 38 degree afternoon, way better value than it sounds.

Nice work mapping out three days. I'd swap the Shopping Iguatemi stop for a wander along Rua José Bonifácio near the center, quieter and better for people-watching. Also check Teatro Municipal's schedule online, some weeks it's dark.

Been to the city a couple times and the Museu da Imagem e do Som timing is right, but check the exhibit schedule before you go, some weeks only one gallery is open. Also the doceria near Rua Tiradentes does a solid pão de queijo around 4pm.
