πŸ’΅ Money Matters
The currency is the Bangladeshi Taka (BDT). ATMs are widespread, but carry cash for smaller shops and street food. Exchange money at banks or authorized counters for the best rates.

🚌 Getting Around
Use ride-sharing apps like Uber and Pathao for convenient travel. For short trips, CNG auto-rickshaws are common; agree on the fare before starting. Public buses are cheap but crowded and confusing for first-timers.

πŸ™ Cultural Etiquette
Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites like the Chatteshwari Temple. Remove shoes before entering mosques and temples. Always ask permission before taking photos of people.

πŸ™οΈ Must-See Highlights
In 3 to 5 days, prioritize the Foy's Lake amusement park, the historic Port Area, and the vibrant GEC Circle. Don't miss the beautiful Patenga Beach at sunset. For a panoramic view, ride the Karnaphuli River ferry.

πŸ› Food to Try
Sample local dishes like Mezbani beef and fresh hilsa fish at restaurants in the New Market area. Try street food like fuchka and chotpoti from stalls near GEC Circle. For a sit-down meal, visit the popular 'Poushee Restaurant' on CDA Avenue.

πŸ›οΈ Shopping Spots
Explore the bustling New Market for clothes, electronics, and souvenirs. For traditional handicrafts, visit the Craft Center in Chittagong. Bargain politely at local shops, but fixed prices apply in malls like the Sanmar Ocean City.

🌦️ Best Time to Visit
The ideal months are November through February when the weather is cool and dry. Avoid the monsoon season from June to October, as heavy rains can disrupt travel plans. Pack light cotton clothes and an umbrella just in case.

yo this guide's pretty solid, just wanna add one thing: don't skip the ship breaking yards on the beach road past patenga, it's wild to see these massive tankers being torn apart by hand, not for everyone but it's a real chattogram thing. also if u're at foy's lake, the ropeway up to the hilltop is worth the extra 100 taka even if the line's long, the view over the whole city at sunset is unreal. and for food, skip poushee honestly, it's fine but overhyped, try 'sultan's dine' near 2 no. gate for a proper bengali thali, way more local and half the price. grab a pathao to the port area early morning around 7am before it gets chaotic, the ferry ride is way calmer then

arrow_drop_up 23 arrow_drop_down

honestly the guide's solid but it misses the hill tract day trips, if u have a spare day take a local bus to rangamati, it's like 2 hours and the lake views are insane, way better than foy's lake tbh. also for the sim thing, u can get a cheaper data pack at any robi corner shop near gec, no need to hit the airport counter, they'll charge u double. oh and try the coconut water from the carts near patenga, it's the freshest u'll find anywhere in the city, like 30 t

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

this guide's pretty accurate but i'd add that u should hit the karnaphuli river ferry around golden hour, it's chaos but in a good way, everyone's selling stuff on the boats and the light hits the hills just right. also for shopping, skip new market on friday afternoons, it's a total mob, go on a weekday morning instead and u can actually browse without getting elbowed. the mezbani beef tip is spot on tho, get it from the stalls by the railway station, that's where the locals eat

πŸ™οΈ Agrabad: Business Hub
Agrabad is the commercial heart of Chattogram, home to corporate offices, banks, and the city's main business district. πŸ›οΈ GEC Circle: Shopping & Dining
GEC Circle is a lively area with shopping malls, restaurants, and cafes, popular among tourists and locals alike. It's ideal for leisure travelers who want to be near dining and entertainment. Budget hotels range from $25 to $40, mid-range from $50 to $80, and high-end like The Peninsula Chittagong (GEC Circle) from $90 to $130. Budget guesthouses start at $15, mid-range hotels like Hotel Sea Palace (Patenga Beach Road) cost $30 to $50, and the upscale Hotel The Cox Today (Patenga) charges $80 to $120. For budget stays, Hotel Patenga Inn (Patenga) offers basic rooms from $20. Book through Agoda for competitive rates; the area is about 15 minutes from Shah Amanat International Airport by CNG.

πŸ›οΈ Kotwali: Historic Center

πŸ’° Booking Tips & Timing
In Chattogram, booking platforms like Agoda and Booking.com often have lower rates than walk-in prices, especially for mid-range hotels. For budget stays, local sites like Bproperty or Facebook groups can offer cheaper options. Avoid the monsoon season (June to September) for lower prices, but expect rain; winter (November to February) is peak season, so book at least two weeks ahead. Always check if the hotel includes breakfast and airport pickup, as many mid-range places do.

🚌 Getting Around
Chattogram's main areas are connected by CNG auto-rickshaws, local buses, and ride-sharing apps like Uber and Pathao. From Shah Amanat International Airport, a CNG to Agrabad costs around $3 to $5, while a bus ride is under $1. The railway station near Kotwali offers easy access to other cities. For hotel bookings, choose a district close to your main activities to minimize travel time.

⏱️ 24-Hour Decision
If you only have 24 hours to decide, pick Agrabad for business or GEC Circle for leisure, as both offer the best mix of hotels, dining, and transit. For a beachside escape, Patenga is your best bet. Book through Agoda or Booking.com for the best rates and confirm your reservation early.

good breakdown, the district by district split is actually useful. one thing i'd add from experience: kotwali looks cheapest on paper but the decent budget places there fill up fast with folks coming off the Dhaka bus, so if you're arriving late night you might end up walking around Firingi Bazar with your bag. book ahead even for a $15 room.

also on getting around, Pathao bikes are way faster than CNG in Agrabad and GEC traffic around 5 to 8pm, a 20 min CNG ride becomes 6 min on a bike. cheaper too. just avoid it if it's raining.

for long stays Khulshi is worth a look over Nasirabad, quieter and closer to GEC, and the serviced apartments there do monthly deals around 25 to 35k taka.

The writeup is genuinely useful, especially the district split. One angle nobody's mentioned: Patenga's beach road hotels are fine for a night or two but the sea air corrodes everything, so don't expect the AC or the wifi to work reliably. I've stayed at Sea Palace twice and both times the router was dead by evening.

For a different base, look at Khulshi or Foy's Lake side if you have a car or don't mind CNG fares. Quieter, greener, and the mid-range places there run $35 to $60 with actual parking, which Agrabad hotels mostly don't have. Foy's Lake is also walkable to the zoo and the hills if you want a half-day off.

On the money side, carry cash for anything under $40 a night. Most budget and mid-range places in Kotwali and Patenga quote in taka and won't take cards, and the nearest ATM on Agrabad C/A can be empty on Fridays. Bkash works at some front desks now but it's hit or miss.

solid writeup but one thing i'd add: for agrabad the weekday vs weekend thing is real but it's the opposite for patenga. friday/saturday the beach crowd pushes hotel sea palace type places up, so book midweek if u can.

also if ur staying more than a week, look at nasirabad or khulshi for monthly rates instead of nightly. a lot of those mid-range places will do 30-40% off for a full month if u just ask at the desk, no platform involved. hotels.com won't show u that.

one correction tho, hotel the cox today is in cox's bazar not patenga, think u mixed that up. patenga's nicer options are more like the peninsula's patenga side or just cheaper guesthouses along the beach road
