**🌮 Fruitvale Street Food** Start your Oakland food tour in Fruitvale, where International Boulevard turns into a open-air market of tacos, pupusas, and aguas frescas. The block around 34th Avenue and International Boulevard is packed with food trucks and stalls, especially on weekends from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Grab a few tacos al pastor for $3 to $4 each, or a plate of pupusas for around $10. Cash is king here, so hit an ATM before you arrive. **🍜 Chinatown Classics** Oakland's Chinatown, centered on Webster Street between 8th and 10th Streets, is home to some of the best budget eats in the city. For a bowl of wonton noodle soup that costs under $10, try Gum Kuo at 388 9th Street, open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dim sum spots like Tao Yuen Pastry (816 Franklin Street) offer steamed buns and dumplings for $2 to $5 per item, perfect for a quick snack. **🍕 Temescal Pizza and More** The Temescal neighborhood along Telegraph Avenue is a food lover's paradise, with standout spots like Pizzaiolo (5008 Telegraph Avenue) serving wood-fired pizzas from $18 to $24. For a casual bite, check out Cholita Linda at 4923 Telegraph Avenue, where you can get a plate of tacos or a Cuban sandwich for around $12 to $15. Most restaurants here open around 11:30 a.m. and stay busy through dinner. **🥗 Farmers Market Finds** The Grand Lake Farmers Market, held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Splash Pad Park (near Lake Park Avenue and Grand Avenue), is a great place to sample local produce and prepared foods. You'll find everything from freshly made tamales for $5 to artisan cheeses and baked goods. Arrive early to beat the crowds and grab a breakfast crepe from one of the stands. **🍔 Uptown Burger Joints** Uptown Oakland has a growing burger scene, with spots like TrueBurger (146 Grand Avenue) offering classic cheeseburgers for around $10 to $13. For something more indulgent, try the burgers at The Kon-Tiki (347 14th Street), where a burger and fries will set you back about $16. Both places are open for lunch and dinner, with TrueBurger staying open until 10 p.m. on weekends. **🍣 Rockridge Sushi and Seafood** Rockridge is home to some of Oakland's best sushi, including the beloved Yume Sushi (6030 College Avenue), where omakase starts at $80 per person. For a more affordable option, try the sushi rolls at Kansai (1758 Solano Avenue in nearby Berkeley, but worth the short drive), with most rolls priced between $8 and $15. Reservations are recommended for dinner, especially on weekends. **🍰 Sweet Treats and Desserts** No food tour of Oakland is complete without dessert, and the city delivers with spots like Fentons Creamery (4226 Piedmont Avenue), famous for its giant sundaes since 1894. A single scoop of ice cream costs about $5, while a banana split will run you around $12. For something different, try the mochi donuts at Mochill Mochidonut (388 9th Street in Chinatown), where a box of six costs about $15. **🍺 Breweries and Bites** Oakland's brewery scene is thriving, and many spots offer excellent food to go with your pint. Check out Drake's Dealership (2325 Broadway), a beer garden with wood-fired pizzas and shared plates, where a pizza costs around $16 to $20. Another favorite is Original Pattern Brewing (292 4th Street), which often hosts food pop-ups and has a rotating selection of local eats. Most breweries open around noon and stay open until 10 p.m. or later on weekends.
